Edit - ok i guess I'm not a day trader by definition. I just dabble on Scottrade
Let me know when you're trading sums that matter on the speculative stocks. I don't care if you made $2,000 one time...good for you. It's just like winning in Vegas.

When you're investing your entire nest egg, you're not buying on stuff like ndev. If you are, you'll be broke very soon.
You'll be the first to know. I retract my original post

I tried day trading. Not my style.

I keep 70% in what I think are established, and play 30% in whatever volatile (crude, NG, gold, small-cap biotech, etc.). Whatever I make on those trades, I put back into my 70%.

I work for a trust company, so we are bound to a fiduciary standard which essentially boils down to time in the market > timing the market. The best way to ensure risk adjusted returns (no matter the asset mix) in the long run is through proper diversification.

I don't have a problem with day trading, and I even encourage it for some clients, as long as it is limited to "play money".
