2017 or 2018 m2

I received a call from my ca that they received additional allocations and that I would get one for a June build. I would receive the car sometime in august. I asked if I could get a 2018 build and he said yes but would most likely receive the car sometime in October. I am a little torn if I should wait for the 2018 or just go for the 2017.

2018 may get the latest iDrive (like in the 7 and 5 series) and may come with a price increase. That's the going rumour right now from the stealerships

Personally i'd wait for a 2018 if it's only a few more months to wait..but that's because I like to see the new tech.

A couple of questions. Any help would be appreciated.

1) When would a June week 25 build arrive in the States? lateAugust/earlySept?
2) What's the last week for 2017 builds?
3) Any facts/rumors on what week the 2018 builds begin? How long to the States?
4) I've been checking the LCI threads to see what's new and it seems that the LCDs and backup camera are the only things for sure. Am I missing something?
Just trying to get more specific on the As1002 question.

Thanks in advance.

Last year reppucci posted in this thread that there was some MY17 M2 production on June 23 and 24.Then MY17 production started again on July 8 2016.

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1272805&page=3

My 2016 M2 finished production on May 11,2016 and arrived at my Toronto delear on June 20,2016.So if you get an early July MY18 M2 production week you could take delivery of your car by the end of August.

As far as changes go the MY18 M2 will get LED headlights and tailights and maybe an improved i drive. There might also be some other interior improvements.Someone said in the German 2ertalk forum that they saw the interior in the M2 CS and they said it had a new instrument cluster,so that might also be something new for the MY18 M2.

Thanks! So you expect late June early July production before the August break. Maybe a dumb question, but it sounds like there would be no change in the metal in the refresh that would slow the shift to '18 production until after August, just swap out the lights, wiring and maybe the cluster?. Hmm, I have the OPs predicament, but not a bad one to have. Now if the allocation came later, the wait would be until Oct.

I received the same exact call from my CA. Decided to go with the 2017 MY so I could enjoy it a bit this summer. LED headlights/taillights will be cool but not like the current lights are lame or anything.

The lack of MY18 M2 info, no major LCI... why wait only to get practically the same car. That said... I'm glad that MY 17 has IDrive 5, vs MY 16.

You'll never be 100% happy either way and waiting is not always going to be worth it. The next rumor might have you waiting for MY19/20.

Order it, take delivery or find one available and enjoy your M2, whatever the MY. Just my .02

Now that we all know what will be on the MY18 any new thoughts on this? I'm in the same dilemma as I have a choice between saving 2k on a MY17 vs getting a MY18 at MSRP a month later.

If you're in no need of a car immediately then wait for an MY2018. You might save more on a MY17 (2k is nothing) but at the end you will get much more when you sell the MY18.

The upgrades aren't huge but I still think worth it if you have only 1 month more to wait and you get it MSRP.

This is what I did.

2018 = better equipment and availability of a moonroof (if you care). The major benefit to a 2018 is a year's less depreciation, so it should hold it's value longer. Plus, if a $1K-2K price difference up front is a critical issue, IMHO you're swimming in the wrong pond. However, I certainly can understand the "get the '17 now" argument, but will you regret that decision a couple of months from now when you see your first '18? I had the choice of the dealer's last '17 allocation and the first '18 allocation, and I went for the '18 delivered a month later because I really wanted the moonroof and the LED headlights. I've played "IwishIwouldawaited" in the past and will never do it again.

I don't get the "swimming in the wrong pond" issue but I do see your point about having regrets about not waiting for the newest model a few months later.

Some people stretch their finances to the point that an extra $1-2K makes a huge difference to them, and they get in financial difficulty. They might be better off buying a less-expensive car.

Oh I see what your saying. I think that's what a dealership told me when I refused to pay any mark up.

Depends on what's important to you - are LED headlights important to you? Moonroof? New dash design? Saving a couple grand never hurts. Depreciation is not a concern to me, but I guess it depends on your personal plans - I plan to keep mine a long time, for instance. I like the new dash and the LED headlights but I would have bought a 2017 if I had been ready to buy earlier. I think it all comes down to personal preferences.
