Someone's M2 wheels got stolen - Let's get (additional) wheel lock bolts
Car pictured below ain't mine.
I had McGard wheel lock bolts on my 1M. Stock size M2 wheel lock bolts = M14 x 1.25: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=36_1812 https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/en/parts/...ck/36136781151

Ouch! Any idea where was this? Mine never leaves my sight and sleeps in the garage.

Yes, I know, but that's exactly why it's worth adding non-BMW wheel lock bolts: specialized thieves possess the BMW wheel locks key set, so it's just an easy-peasy unplug and run job.
If you got additional wheel lock bolts, like for example McGard, it's more work for them (eventually forcing the locks till these break) and they may possibly skip the idea of stealing your wheels but look for an easier target. EDIT: the wheel bolts pictured below fit the 1M (M12x1.5). I used to have these: McGard 27179 sub - Black finish head ("Black Edition") (see here and here).

Wheel locks stops the local junkie from stealing your wheels. A pro will remove them easily anyway.

A pro doesn't tinker with the wheels - (s)he simply takes the whole car.

Went over to the m3/4 forum and asked about the m14x1.25 lock nuts for stud conversions. Got pointed over to Motorsport hardware

we offer a theft deterrent option:
Vorsteiner Spline Wheel Bolts. We offer application for newer BMW's in the 14x1.25 pitch and each bolt has it's own spline key design and key that needs to be used to install/ uninstall your wheels. Benefits include: -spline head design that is to be used strictly with Vorsteiner Spline key to install/ uninstall -6 stage black coating for durability and high quality finish and luster -30mm shank versus the traditional oem shank to offer a tighter lock in as well as accomodate 3-5mm spacers in case needed for big brake calipers -unique bolt head design to protect wheel holes from being scratched |

This unfortunately has happened to me too except a failed attempt , which arguably is worse than coming out to all 4 gone sitting on blocks neatly. Came out to driver front wheel gone and a damaged driver skirt -- and the other passenger wheel was unbolted with the brake drum sitting on it before they took off. Living in a nice area does not keep the fuckery from seeking you out . Where it happened showed that whoever did it didn't care/doesn't have shit to lose because it was unwise to try at that specific spot for even the most brazen of thieves. It was tricky to get to dealer but a quick fix ...but it took forever for a new skirt to come in from AG . I agree with the testament. It'll just keep the amateurs/junkies away but not the pros , I would presume mine got hit by the former
Edit- locks are on of course. And I also tried to put them on my order sheet but was told to just deal with it after delivery. It was on my "to do list" but I guess I was naive to think it would not be a green light to someone in dead winter, I guess . lol |
