Where is Jeremy clarkson and the stig when you need. All these reviews are all chatter. Show me some track times. Let's see which one performs better.

I would take the M2 over RS personally.. if I wanted to spend a lot of money on a fast as crap econobox I would get a GC8 Impreza and swap it, or build an old Evo.

I'm seriously debating whether to start looking at the RS.

Many of those who have driven the M2 and the RS say the RS is more engaging.

And it's $20k cheaper.

And I live in a snow belt.

And I buy a car for me, not to impress others.

Both great cars. . .

I'm planning to keep my current WRX 11' as my daily driver, with winter tires for the snow days, I don't need a Focus RS as my second car doesn't make any sense in my case...

I have been entertaining something going foe even less practical, like a 2 seater, such as boxter s, 4C or even miata! Can't wait until the abarth 124 comes out!

No, but just thought it was appropriate to link a video of the same cars head to head since that was the topic of discussion in this thread.

They are both great cars, and you have to drive them both yourself to make your own considered opinion.

Some people far too easily dismiss a car they haven't event driven.

The interior in the RS was better than I expected and the Recaro seats superior to the boggo standard ones you get in the M2 which are disappointing considering the price and what you get in the M3/M4.

Why? Take them out in the canyons at 5/10 pace and the BMW won't see which way the ford went. The RS is going to be far faster in the real world. It's going to 991 turbo or a gen 1 mini on r-comps to run away from that focus.

I'm sick of these track comparisons to be honest, lets see some real world results. The M2 has got it beat in exterior/interior quality, sound, looks, feel, power, etc. Okay, the RS wins in utility

Hell, I bet currently the M2 is cheaper than the RS! With Ford's ridiculous $5-$10k markups they about equal out in price.

Ford has been really hyping up and marketing this car aggressively, I would honestly take the Golf R over the RS.
M2 is much faster in a straight line but the RS will be pretty darn good in the corners.

Also there's no way in hell a RS costs more than a M2. You can get a RS at MSRP or 1-3K over easy. The MSRP is 15K less than the M2 base for base and some dealers are charging 10K over for M2's as well.

For a car that costs that much less to be that good is impressive. I have my radar on the RS and M2 as my next daily, whichever one I can get first will be the winner.

Auto express already tested them on the track. The M2 was barely faster but still won. The Rs will no doubt have an advantage in wet conditions.

I'd never buy an RS over an M2. I have a Golf R right now, I want my next car to be a sports car, not another hyper hatchback. Apples and oranges.

Funny you mention this.In Clarkson's Sunday Times column he tested the M2 and stated it was his favourite M car to date. (No link available to this as it's too new-08/05/16) and to quote: " a lot cheaper than the M4 and a lot better as well "

He also had a caveat and thought the Focus RS might be even better but admitted this was heresay and hadn't tested one....yet.

For me personally, I don't care about taking corners at the limit. I care for the overall package as an amazing daily driver, weekend canyon carver, and maybe a few trips to the strip. The M2 would be the better car in every way. The Focus only has utility and blistering quick 0-40 times(AWD traction) going for it.

And if you can find me a dealer that is selling the RS at MSRP, please do share. I'm not willing to travel cross country for a fucking Focus, and 8-10 of my local dealers don't have any allocations and if they do its $5-$10k ADM at the least. You do the math, an almost $40k RS with a $5-$10 ADM or a $52k M2(both 6MT to be fair)

I can get an M2 at MSRP right now. Believe me I shopped for an RS because our X1 lease is ending so I considered adding an RS alongside my F80. At this point though I'm thinking of going for the Golf R DSG with DCC, which is actually faster in a straight line than the RS, which for daily duties will be amazing.

Just because of this, I would consider a Focus RS

Kidding of course, but I did enjoy those pop corn noises!

I definitely got a chuckle out of the people here poo-pooing the RS because it's an econobox and the M2 is somehow a luxury proposition.

I love the M2 but the reality is it's the hotted up econo-model from the basement of BMW's lineup. Not to take away from the performance, but some of you need to get off your high-horses.

I'm confused why people would even cross shop these 2 cars when one is a coupe and one is a 4 door hatch

For me, i want a coupe and coupe only so this car would never be on my radar no matter the price or how it performs.

So was the E30 M3. So was the American E36 M3. How it drives is what matters.

The RS puts out some impressive numbers, not least of which is its MSRP, however theoretical that price is right now.

Personally, I don't like the looks of the RS at all, I want rear wheel drive, and theoretical money doesn't mean squat to me. So my own choice is easy, no horses present or necessary.

Funny turn of events for me as I now have both an M2 on order(without any PW despite ordering in Dec 2015) and a Focus RS that will be delivered beginning of June.

I have not driven the RS yet but plan to the coming weekend. The M2 I have driven already so it will be interesting to compare.

The plan is to sell the RS before I take delivery of the M2.

Genie appears bearing RS in one hand, M2 in the other.
No money, no strings attached.
Id be surprised by anyone who chose to drive away in the ford.
