19 Comp 56k miles vs. 17 OG 11k miles

I'm considering a few M2's. I owned a 17 and 18 manual in the past. I'm looking at a couple. Do I go for OG presine with low miles vs. Comp with higher miles? Both are sticks in perfect condition. I feel like the comp will be "more car" but 11k miles is like new.

Opinions?

It is all about you on this one. Both the OG and comp are great cars but they both have their positives and negatives. I wouldn't be scared of the miles on the comp but the 11k on an OG is awfully attractive too. Your usage, mod plans (if any), track/no track, etc all these things make a difference here. Things like sound come into play here too - as you know the N55 can be pretty pleasant to listen to. The S55 however takes a bit of work (and money) to be something worth hearing. If you share a bit more about what your plans are with the car can give you some more feedback on both.

If you want a track rat get the M2C. If you are daily driving the car there is very little difference. Then I would get the OG M2. The OG M2 should be cheaper also.

I was in the same situation 2 years ago. Decided to go for OG 2018 LCI. Sounds amazing with Mperformance exhaust, just enough power for me to handle going WOT. I have a mortgage and two kids, so the price of upgrade parts/ engine mods being significantly cheaper for N55 than S55 suits me best. If I was tracking it, S55 is able to squeeze out more power(after $$$$). But if you're into having a ton of fun on mountain roads, highways, sexy/violent street driving (with burbles) N55 is more than enough.

PS: 11k mileage is just too sexy to pass on...

At near 60k you’ll be looking at the beginning of a lot of maintenance. 60k range is around the time gaskets and hoses start leaking so keep that in mind. I’d always choose the lower mileage car with maintenance records

OG if you want reliability and sound.

Comp if you want a real "M" car......

Hey all, thanks for the feedback. I tend to go through cars quickly (this will be my 3rd round in an M3) so resale is a priority.

In a way, I almost wonder if the Comp is better for resale, as I'm buying the cheapest comp in the country (plus its a mint black manual so that's tempting) where buying the most expensive OG, even with low miles, could take a hit on resale. My initial reaction is lower miles is better resale, however not if you pay a premium since you may not get the ROI back.

I'd personally prefer the comp straight up for the upgrades, but I don't have my heart set on either. My heart is set on a manual, that's about it. And i"m not looking to spin this into an OG vs. Comp thread

Although I likely will not modify the comp, where I'll be adding some carbon and exhaust to the OG since its white, and needs some contrast.

Both will take a hit on resale. The G87 is making that happen. But a very high mileage Comp will be hard to resell.

If resale is at top of mind... My theory is you're selling from a position of strength in the market when selling an abnormally low mile car. Ultimately they're both going to depreciate further before bottoming.

Not exactly the same scenario... But FWIW, I chose to forgo a low mile OG last summer, and instead paused the search 6 months and came back to the market with a bit of an increased budget that allowed me to get into a low mile Comp. If my budget didn't change I would have stuck with the low mile OG.

I also go through cars quite quickly. I was in a similar situation, but the Comp was low miles. I was back and forth until the car I was looking at got offered to me at a MUCH lower price than listed due to the owner finding the replacement vehicle he wanted. That made my decision easier. I still wonder if I should have went with the comp, but then I remember how much cheaper I got into the OG and am happy with my decision.
Maybe find a lower mile comp?

2019 is also the last year you could easily tune a comp, iirc.

True, of course if tuning isn’t on the table then then it doesn't matter. However, a 2019 M2C is very easy to flash tune and for the $500 that it costs for the flash software, it's the cheapest extra 100 hp/torque you'll likely find.

Are both cars being offered at the same price? Also, what kind of miles would you be putting on it?

I would personally want the lower mileage car, but since you go through cars a lot, I say go for the M2C. You mentioned that you previously have had an 17 and 18 M2 so the M2C would be something different.

On a side note. I don’t mean to start anything, but I finally heard a M2C at WOT(or someone really putting the peddle to it) and it sounded terrible. I know what you guys mean now.

Thats the thing why I could NEVER own a comp, because of the sound.

I'd get the Comp all day long. 60k miles is nothing, plenty of S55s running around with 150k plus miles. To me, the OG is closer to a 235i than a M car, whereas the Comp is a real M car, and as such will be easier to sell, although some like their OGs and that's cool too, just a harder sell because you need to find that odd guy that cares ONLY for the sound (like our backwards friend, Philly Sweden), especially if the price is the same.

And? Collectors also value 6 cyl 1967 Mustangs, but that doesn't make them valuable to me. I don't get why so many OG owners get butthurt. I specifically said "to me", meaning it is my opinion, right or wrong. It shouldn't affect you enjoying your car or spending your money where you see fit.
