For the money, I can't think of a better can than the M2. IF the M2 was $70K, I do not think I would love it as much as I do. I would like it for sure - but I would feel that I paid more than the car was worth. But man, at $55K, this car feels so right (and mind you, I came from a 103K 650xi - which while really really nice... was kind of a boat - a fancy boat, but still a boat).

End of the day, a $75K Cayman(is that what they go for? Or more?) probably drives and handles better than the M2 (ok, it does ), but I'm still not sure I could do it. I'm a BMW guy and if I'm going to go Porsche, it will be a 911.
I feel the same too, if you already own and driven the M2, going for a Porsche 981 or the new 718 isn't going to make a huge difference.

I put down a deposit for the 718 Cayman S before I had the opportunity to snatch my M2 without having to be on the waitlist. A couple of months later, I went and cancelled my 718 order.

If you are going from an M2 to a Porsche, you might as well step up to the 911, which is a totally different ball park.

Just my opinions though!

I could not do it.......driving something other than my M2 or RS6 would not do. We have a Q7 (Wife's Car) it's ok, but not fun....

I went from a 235 to a 981CS - I know, the M2 is much more capable than the 235 - but it's a drastic difference from an experience point of view. I DD my 981 (my Ducati is the toy. ) and haven't had a single issue with it - you just take one buddy to lunch instead of 3.

It really comes down to whether you need back seats or not (the 981 actually has a lot of storage capability) - and then subjective comparisons. I think it handles much better than the 2er platform, is very nice to look at, and my god the sound. None of my 5 BMWs sounded remotely good (in retrospect) compared to this thing.

But the M2 is still a good all around choice, and is hard to beat from the "bang for your buck" standpoint. You don't get very much of that in P car land.

Pretty funny I came across this thread as I'm debating whether to buy our the current lease or get a used Cayman S/GTS. Heart says GTS but head said maybe used M3 for practicality, or buy out current car. Going from M235i to M2 is not that exciting for me.

If I had wanted another two seat Porsche to go with the 930, it would have been a 6 cylinder-Cayman S. Which I would have tweaked. But that would have made 3 essentially two seat cars, and a minivan. That would not have made a lot of sense, and would also have been a hard sell at home.

Hmmm, if I were much shorter man, I would have to consider the Cayman over the M2 as long as it wasn't my daily driver. As it is, the M2 is almost as high performance, looks are subjective but are a drop off compared to the Cayman, but the m2 is much cheaper and more functional as a daily driver.

I'm currently waiting for the M2 CS, but am also seriously considering a Cayman GTS as an option. I'll probably wait until there is more information regarding the M2 CS to come out before making my decision. It will be my daily driver, but I only put around 8k miles on my car a year. We just purchased a Macan Turbo as our family SUV (wife's car), so kind of have the P-car itch at the moment... hoping it doesn't turn into an expensive rash .
