i just got off the phone to my dealer, and said on his list there are no updates for the M2 this year, only the 2 series will receive an LCI, even when i asked him over and over he said he highly doubts this as there will only be the CS if anything.

That's interesting... you would think it would be possible to offer the newer lights in the M2 if they fit on the base 2-series.

That soundS plausible as previous m cars have had lci updates later than the equivalent non m series models.

If buying many, many cars has taught me anything it's that dealers are often the last to know about their own brands upcoming changes.

Why wait for the 'next big thing' which might be minor, particularly if you'll have to wait even longer? With the likely price increase, you can probably buy aftermarket parts (e.g. lights) that are as good or possibly even better.

everyone talking about lights, im not bothered by this its the interior upgrade im interested in because its a little bland.. needs to be a more sense of occasion when getting in, thats what i am most interested in and also if they will supply it with more colours, thats if the LCI will be for the M2

M2 will get LCI because

The headlights, taillights, and interior parts are essentially the same.

I used to work in auto manufacturing, and when a product is updated (like headlights and taillights), any parts/equipment not used for the new part are usually sold to a third party manufacturer to make spare parts as legally required to be available x years after a model is changed/replaced.

There is no way that BMW will keep old headlights, taillights, etc. as some marketing ploy. The cost is to keep both is not even close to any possible gain.

Example: The 4 series LCI. The 2015-2017 M3 has the same headlights as the M4. The regular 3 series got its LCI in 2016, the M3 kept its original headlights yet it got LCI taillights because those are shared with the regular 3 series. Now that the 4 series LCI has new headlights, the M3 gets them too because those parts are shared.
This example is why any 2 series LCI that is a shared part on the M2 will be put into production for the M2.

I'll second that... I work at HQ for a car mfg, and I go to the spy sites to find out what's new in our own company (unless I go to R&D and peek around

i hope BMW won't turn the m2 into an RS3 and refresh it every year now that would just piss me right off. but judging by that post it won't be so

All this should I wait for the 'next thing' is ridiculous. 90% of people can't even buy an M2 if they want one as they are all spoken for or overpriced. You have no choice but to wait. Stop acting like its a deliberate choice.

Yeah, like you have a direct line to bmw for information.

Or a dealer is a better source.

haha but i have it ordered!!! week 7 build! i have thought about it and i won't be waiting, i cant be bothered for one, and i like the idea of having the 1st ever gen M2. and tbh i can't see how they can make it that much better that its worth waiting for if it will even be made.

regarding the lights im thinking abouut OSS Designs with Black Retina Within the first inner Corona similar to that nutcase who made his M2 into ironman

worst case scenario if i dont like it ill flog them and buy the OEM again.

Not sure about the M2 .. but BMW as a manufacturer that did exactly this with the M3/M4.... making multiple refreshes in stages ..

They aren't changing the engine. Have mine on order, just waiting for production week.

Who told you that? Your saying it as a fact?
You make it sound like the N55 in the M2 is a stock out of the box motor. It's not. In fact it's modified with components from the S55. So after the development costs and only two model years they will dump it? Not probable.

I never said or even implied that the N55 in the M2 is a stock out of the box motor.

"* F22/F23/F87 LCI is indeed next year for MY 2018 (calendar year 2017). Don't expect major changes, this looks to be a very mild refresh."

I would expect LED headlights and taillights only. Maybe a new color - that's it. The body panels will remain the same so you can retrofit the new lights with some coding if you really really want them. No engine changes.

The M2 CS will have the S55 engine in MY19 but will likely cost exponentially more than a base M2 with probably lots of carbon fiber "go faster" bits.

Bmw wants to be like apple with updates and rumors about updates.

It's all a pointless game of materialism at its worst. If you like the m2 now get it now and forget about the "update". In all honestly most of these updates are serious fluff anyways. Look at the m3 and m4 updates.

There might be no M2 LCI at all, just new version next year 03/2018 with S55. BMW released price list in Germany effective from 03/2017 and there is just minor 500 EUR price bump - and revised service packages.

If that's true then everybody is content (current and future owners) and no sudden drop in value for anybody. Just a 2 year production run of a magnificent car for everybody that wants to own one.
