Hold On M2 Production

My salesman tells me there may be a delay in getting my car. He said there's currently a hold on production. Anyone hear such a thing?

What week are you? I'm week 7 and spoke to BMW Genius last Friday and he mentioned that everything is still on schedule.

I don't have a week yet. Just an order number. My salesman said it would be a March build. I'd get more details once I actually have a VIN.

You don't get a VIN until the body is actually built and engraved so that is pretty late in the process. Best information comes from calling BMW customer service and getting info from them. If your sales guy doesn't have a build week there is really no way he can estimate a March build. I would call BMW and ask them, often times they have an estimated build week, it can move by a week in either direction but at least you would have a decent estimate.

You get the VIN before production starts. Thats how all of my ordered cars have been including my M2.

By order number do you mean a production number? If yes, it should have a date associated with it, that you can get by calling BMW customer line.

If you don't have a production number, then you most certainly aren't getting a car in March and your CA is just BS'ng you around. The entire year's worth of allocations has more or less come out for Canada (not final yet) so your dealer will already know how many cars and which dates they will be produced (MY17 anyway...MY18 I don't know).

I actually just got off the phone with BMW Genius 1.844.4GENIUS (443-6487) since I had some questions about the possibility of accessories being backordered, and they confirmed for week 8 build with no foreseen delays. I'd ask for more details from the dealer and call BMW with your prod number so you hear it directly from them. Good luck!

Do you have a Production Number on the Spec/Order Sheet?

I don't have a production number. I called my salesman (bought 3 previous cars from him) about a month ago asking about the M2 and if he could get me one. He said yes that he has an allocation for a March build. So I put a down payment on it. I asked him again the other day if he knew an exact date and that's when he told me about this "delay". I don't think he'd dick me around. This is the top M sales dealership in Canada. He said all he had was an order number. Wonder what good that will do me.

In U.S., unless you have a Production Number, you don't have a Build allocation. Not sure how it works in Canada though. Wishing you the best ....

Ok so I called BMW Canada and what I do have is an actual production number. She said she doesn't see any info beyond my car/options. So no build date. Guess I have to continue to wait.

Excellent! You can track your car now on My BMW website.

No, he can't. We in Canada do not have access to the same services.

BMW North America does not include Canada or Mexico as regions.

To OP: talked to my sources and no word of a hold.

Sounds to me like your CA over-promised. Fear not though, already having a production number is a good start.
