I would be cautious with those CEL delete cables. I've heard and read that they tend to fail after a couple months and the code reappears

they don't work the same way as dp fix wires. it's a little box that you keep plugged in your ODBII port and it deletes 02 sensor/cat error codes in the same way a jb4 does. Has nothing to do with passing emissions, just keeps the CEL from coming on. seems like it would work just fine. when you go in for service you just remove it. when you get the car back you just plug it back in. there's no issue with not being able to pass emissions when you take your car in for service at bmw. not in NJ at least. dealerships don't give a shit about that, you only have to worry about passing emissions when getting your sticker at the DMV once the car is 5 years old. California may be different.

You've heard wrong, I've tried and ran into no issues with numerous sport cars and supercars.

Catless DP's will make it sound louder and will make more power combined with a tune.

A 200 CEL DP will not need a tune and will have more of a 'bass' deeper sound. But, expect black smoke, because in most cases it will run rich.

With a 100 CEL, some cars will throw a CEL light ( from experience ) on the dash from time to time if the sensors are not good quality.

IF you're going with cats, go with HJS cats.

They also cost 2-3 times as much as the catless one's and aren't as loud, so it's pretty much a no brainer to go catless and just buy a CEL delete module.

i'm not worried about passing emissions, i won't have to even go for 5 years since i just bought the car. i just want the CEL off the dash. i've already figured out multiple ways to do that so i'm good there.

my only question was about how the car will behave when cats are removed and a tune/flash is NOT added.
from what i've been told the car should act the same as before but i'm just asking hoping someone who's done this can tell me from 1st hand experience.

Care to explain why?

I heard different theories on running rich/lean out of dp on stock tune all the time.

Same here, I heard different opinions but in my experience, most of the cars i had with a catless DP blew black smoke ( on 91OCT/95RON pump gas ) even when tuned. When using a better fuel grade like 93OCT/98RON, it did lower the amount of smoke at WOT.

Just to be clear, this only happens at full throttle once all the torque kicks in.

i used to service my old 335 with the intercooler, DP's and a JB4 with the dp fix wires and nobody said anything to me until i removed the wires. then they just told me the car was throwing cat codes but assumed i knew why. wasn't an issue.

Have you guys heard of the BMS Can Flap Module?? Just heard from Mike at X-PH, that can clear the CEL code! That is AWESOME! Just plug it into the OBDII! Also has many other features, like disabling ASD (assuming these all work on the M2).

The Macht Schnell EVC module can do this and much more, while keeping the OBD2 port open.

That's sick! Is the install easy, anything crazy done with wires or does it plug in elsewhere? That'd be great to keep the OBDII port open.

Thanks!

I'm going with a Fabspeed 200-cell with HJS cat(s). To everyone's knowledge, this unit has yet to throw any CEL....just clean, smooth power throughout the powerband with an aggressive tone. At $1200, it's not cheap but why skimp on such an important bolt-on modification? Their in-house dyno showed a 32 whp increase over stock at 5500 rpm (coupled with their muffler bypass exhaust) without any tune.

I know that it's a quality item but for that price you could buy a catless downpipe and a jb4 which would give you valve control, create more hp and make more noise

JB4 is a great product and a catless DP is a HP maker.

That being said, I want warranty coverage, especially with ECU tunes. Granted, the sport tuner isn't warrantied but it's only temporarily on here for another month or so. As for the DP, I want a legal component. A catless not only fails emissions, it draws attention to my service dept. and the random asshole cop who could issue me a citation. I have enough headaches in my life. I want to be as worry-free as possible as it pertains to my car while safely maximizing power and sound.

It really is a good middle ground, no doubt about it. I'm just worried I won't get the sound I want and i'll end up spending all that money with not a lot to show for it. Deff is going to take a little more research and thinking before I decide. I'm not too far away from fabspeed so maybe I can make an appointment with them and get to hear both options in person.

Installed VRSF catless dp last night. The sound is amazing. Videos do not do it justice. I installed the Fabspeed o2 spacer so we will see if that prevents CEL but I think its doubtful. I will post updates.

If you are hesitant on catless dp, dont be. Do it. You will not regret it the sound is intoxicating

well if you go catless you pretty much have to tune/piggyback (it's highly recommended) where as a sport cat doesn't require that so that's why i was leaning towards the more expensive and less fun option lol. No CEL or fear of losing warranty coverage. but jb4 + catless would sound good and give more power. ugh. decisions decisions...

boy does that sound good for something that doesnt trigger a CEL

Alright i think i've made my choice after a whole lot of back and forth. Order placed at fabspeed for a 200cell HJS Cat

they're backordered atm but i will post an update after install and give my thoughts later this month

Yeah my plan is to tune eventually but running catless without tune is perfectly fine like others have said here. I live in NC and emissions is every 3 years now so I'm not too worried.

I'm sure whatever you get you will be satisfied. Catless has a little more deeper tone to it with more cracks and burbles but peace of mind of no CEL with the sportcat is nice as well.

It's not every 3 years. New cars made within the last 3 years are exempt because they rarely fail emissions and it was a waste of everyone's time. After that, you still have to do annual.
