Can't believe my dealer did this to me...

Car arrived in December. With Contis.

This was my 2nd M2, the first I gave up to the guy who was #3 on the list and I took his slot. And yes, the first came with PSS.

I expressed my disappointment with the Conti's and the dealer took it up the chain to BMW and was told "If the customer wants the Michelin PSS, then he can certainly purchase them - at his own cost."

Today, I picked up my car and it had the Michelin PSS. The dealer bought a set and put them on and sold off the Contis. At their cost.

Then, while signing the paperwork, I noticed a small discount on the MSRP. Asked the salesperson later (Brett) and he said "I know you hate paying MSRP, so we took a touch off to make you feel better." I think this came out of his pocket (commission).

Wow.

Serious shout out to Brett Midgley at Autohaus BMW in St. Louis. Thank you Brett, you made my day.

(pic of him holding the drill to put my front plate on - and yes, everyone in the dealer begged me/him not to do it. But he did it and did it himself, because he takes care of his customers.).

Brett is a great guy. I had the pleasure of dealing with him, I am next in line after you but I found my M2 at other place, so I decided to give up my spot as well. He was very happy that I found an allocation nonetheless. I will be choosing Autohaus for my M2 services. Good luck & Enjoy.

Yep

No real choice in Chicago and I'm certainly not a fan of those bumper hook thingys. Everyone agreed that with the color of the IL plate, it actually looks really good. I also forgot to mention he went and grabbed a black, non Autohaus plate frame for the front at his cost too.

He mentioned you. Said he was just happy you found a car (in KC right?)

Yes Sir. Bmw of KC South. They have been spot on with the whole process & pleasant to deal with as well.

You mean he treated the customer with respect and didn't try rip you off...this should be standard practice for an business that should be based on relationships and networks.

Kudos to him.

Not kudos to all the dealers who treat their customers like a one-time pump and dump.

Lol, was thinking the same... Every car deal I've done has been handled this way. Looking at the threads on this board, I am more amazed over how shitty most dealers are.

Guys, while I won't disagree there are some bad dealers out there, if we look at the majority of the threads here (and elsewhere) everyone wants their car at cost and expects the dealer to bend over backwards and do it for free.

Worse, the term relationship does not happen either - people shop for the lowest price, not the dealer that will take care of them, or where they might have bought a car in the past. It is all about price. We see it in everything today - especially with airline tickets. And when we get shitty service, we light up the compliant board. But at the end of the day, who is really at fault?

With Brett (and Authohaus), he did some things that I think we can expect - especially from a repeat customer. The front plate and him personally drilling the bumper (ok, the small discount too). But the tires, that was going over the top and yes, it is because I'm a loyal customer and I don't shop around. He tells me how much he is making and I write the check. It really is about the relationship and...my point is, I think it goes both ways.
(sorry about the rant)

Glad to hear this!

I was a returning customer at my dealer and they basically screwed me over when I got my production number for my M2.

I'm not expecting a car without a profit margin...but the vast majority of the dealers out there have cars marked up a ridiculous amount (which isn't new - this will always happen)...they are price-gouging and then expect you to feel like they are doing you a favor. That's what bothers me about the whole dealer-model.

I 100 percent agree with the BMW response about the tires. Nice to see that the dealer swapped tires for you on the 19s.... in December... just in time for you to let the tires sit for 6 months until April and you will trot out your fresh Old stock Michelins right about the time that the reviews will hit the streets on Michelin P4S ..

I am happy to see this isn't a nightmare thread complaining that the dealer wronged you in someway and am very happy you got terrrific service.

I would love to see Car & Driver do a back to back test with the Conti and the PSS - of course, if the results are what I think they are, C&D would never get another BMW to test.

And, I bet the M2 will still come with these two tires for a long long time (meaning I don't think that Michelin will stop making the PSS tires). And now the thread is completely off topic

edit: of note, Consumer Reports just rated the PSS #1 in summer performance tires.
