Executive question
Just want to check for those without the executive package does the car still come with nav? Toying with grabbing one that doesn't have executive -which I would include if I were ordering from scratch. Other than heated wheel there's nothing there that is a must for me. Heated wheel isn't really either. But I do like it. But does a no option base vehicle still have nav? Thx

Executive adds backup camera, parking distance control, emergency auto braking, lane departure warning, speed limit info, auto high beams, heated steering, wifi hotspot and wireless charging.

You might want to check with your insurance agent if the Executive Package safety features get you an additional discount. That heated steering wheel will also come in handy during the NY winters. And those other safety features may just save your M2 or the occupants from an accident.

All good points. Thanks. I will check. If it comes down to grabbing one that is here now versus waiting 3-6 months I could easily see forgoing the exec package.

Whether any of the currently optional safety stuff is necessary is a personal decision. However many of them will likely become standard in the upcoming years. From personal experience, although I turn my head when backing up and don't rely solely on the backup camera, those backup sensors alerted me at the last minute in a parking lot when an unseen person crossed out of the blue behind me. Ugly sensors vs. crippled person? One of those safety features may just save your car from damage and/or someone from personal injury.

The M2 does not have adaptive cruise control. I'm not often at places that have valet parking, but if did, I'd likely take my 328i daily driver. Remember the valet's ride in Ferris Bueller?

Exec package is nice to have but not essential.

I'm happy I got it. Showing the speed limit on the dash is useful.
I've also fell in love with the heated steering wheel. Back up cam should have been standard, the sensors I don't care much for. Would have been happier without the holes on the bumper but they are barely noticeable. |

Backup cameras
Does NHTSA recommend rearview video systems?
Yes, in fact, by May 2018, NHTSA will require this life-saving technology on all new vehicles https://www.nhtsa.gov/equipment/safety-technologies Transport Canada making back-up cameras mandatory in new cars starting May 2018 http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/rear...nada-1.3829460 |

I debate this and really only want the heated steering wheel although backup sensors are handy. The lane departure warning and auto braking crap can go take a hike IMO. All in all I would probably skip it since the nav is already included.

You might have a hard time selling the car without a backup camera. That feature will be standard in MY2018 for all new vehicles and most buyers would probably expect it after that. But the nanny stuff should all go.

Meh. I've never understood the need for a backup camera in anything smaller than a Tahoe. It's a worthless requirement in 2018 that I for one would not care about if buying used. The only thing that will make resale difficult is the N55 compared to whatever the future M2s will have as a powerplant.

I have NEVER once in 30 years of driving backed into a dang thing. No EXEC needed and I did not order it for ONE reason - I hate all of the sensor holes in the front & rear bumper of an M car for god sake. Antithetical.
