I started out my teenage driving experience a little bit spoiled with a 323is. Loved the size, fun, and the driving feel of that car. Over the years I have had a 330i, X3, and a couple of X5s, my 2014 X5 diesel being my current ride. I've always loved the idea of having an M and since getting rid of my 323 and 330, I have wanted to get back into a smaller, more fun, more engaging car. Along came the M2. Right size, and at this time in my life, a do-able price. I've only had mine for a couple of weeks but I am beyond ecstatic that this opportunity came along!

Love M's since i remember but couldn't afford it till 4/5 years ago and the actual M3/4 aren't what a M should be for ""me"" with total respect to M3/4 owners, swapping between french, italian and german sports cars except Porsche before i bought the M2 which is a real love story hhhh to a point where my girlfriend start to hate it in secret, i feel it lol

Not ordered yet, but I miss my E46 M3 (first BMW of 8 total) that I had new and drove for 4 years. Right now I want a fun, back to BMW roots M vehicle and an M2 should be more reliable than even the best E46 M3 I could realistically expect to find.
On a related note, it was the Grand Tour episode with Clarkson raving about the M2 which finally got me off my ass and to the dealer to "get on the list." I probably would have waited a year for my X5 50I CPO period to expire before deciding on the next DD, but figured the wait for the M2 might be more than 12 months. (Luckily they bumped me to the top of their so-called list...also see "8 BMWs in 12 years" as implied in my first sentence). -Scott |

Took one look at it during the Rolex 24 hrs at Daytona Speedway in January 2016 where it was being displayed.
Did not know about the car and had no idea BMW was launching it in US in April. As soon as I laid eyes on it I knew I had to have one. After that weekend I started obsessing about the car, reading every article and reviews online and contacted all dealers I had near me and got on multiple lists until I hit an allocation!

I was looking for a new daily drive which could be driven year round and also be fun to drive. I had a lower car budget due to my oldest now being in college (an expensive one) and was not quite ready to drop to an Audi A4 (very nice though) after coming out of a three year A8L lease (VERY NICE CAR). I was looking at something under 50k, and did not even know about the M2. I had considered an M1 when they were out, but they were also made of Unobtainium. I was looking at a M235ix which was on the lot, but had a red interior so I would not even sit in the dam thing..... When I heard about the M2 and saw the price I started looking for one and stumbled on one in Utica on the lot. Bought it sight unseen. I did not care about the color or the transmission at that point LOL.
This car is so similar to my 97' M3 (E36) which had a five speed manual, silver with black interior, which I drove as my only car in New Hampshire and then upstate New York for 60,000 miles over 5 years. It was great in the snow and never left me stranded. I had been an AWD convert for years ( and certainly AWD is better in the snow) but was not limited to that configuration. Modern snow tires are amazing. The M2 brings back all of the fun of the M3 and is about the same size! It's 200 pounds heavier and so am I so I'm not one to judge! I think the height spec includes the shark fin antennae (55.5 in for the M2 vs 52.6 in for the M3). Those dimensions are what sparked my interest in the M1 a few years ago. I was not a fan of the growing M3/M4 line since the M3 is trying to be too many things. The large sports sedan is the M5. Period. The current M3 is about the same size as the 90's M5's. I posted elsewhere, if they put the entire powertrain of the M3 in the M2 and charged 20 grand more, they would sell EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM. I love the DCT! But if that car had been a manual, I would love that too! Mike

Friend was on a list and decided not to get it. He asked if I wanted the allocation when his SA called. I wasn't married yet. No kids. Always wanted an M car. Didn't check in with the fiancé and took the allocation. Figured it is easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission hehehe

Ever since my father bought his first 325i sport package back in 2002 I immediately became hooked on BMW'S. The timing was right for me this year and I was always infatuated with M cars. So happy that my first BMW to myself is the M2. It is in my top 5 cars I have ever driven.

Bells Hopslam. Was enjoying some of this fine swill, reading the M3 forum and started reading about the M2. Ive always appreciated a good Driver's car - the beer was buzzing me just fine - so I got on the BMW site and ordered one. It has proven to be a outstanding car. Thank you Larry Bell.

There was nothing else on the market that appealed to me. Test drove boxster S, macan S, s3, m3, ghibli, m235, even leased a 335 and swapped the lease a couple months later. Already had a 350z, three Z4s so not much left that I would want as I'm only interested in a German/Italian sporty coupe. A 911- major price difference. Enter M2....

Very good question. Had a modified 2011 335i coupe with bigger turbo, intercooler, piggyback, shocks etc. Powerful but somehow size and handling lacking. Then the rumors of the M2. It was between the M235i and the M2. When I saw the early camo pics I was taken. Ordered the car without a test drive. The car is exceptional as most reviewers say it is. Despite what many say about the engine
N55 versus S55 etc I find the car is like a beautiful well written orchestral piece and I totally get what music M division created to the senses. Best car I have owned or driven period. |

I have been a BMW fan since 2009 when I bought a used 06 330i, loved the ergonomics and driving dynamics as well as having a strong appreciation for BMW engineering. Drove that car 215,000 miles, when the M235i came out I was interested because the size and price were are a nice fit for my needs. My wife was in medical school so I needed to wait a bit and when rumors of the M2 surfaced I decided to wait. On the day that BMW did the webcast for the M2 announcement I began calling dealers to get on their lists. 1 year and 1 week after those phone calls I picked up my M2 and love it. With a fused back ergonomics are very important to me so if I sit in a car (for example the Camaro SS) and it doesn't meet my ergonomic needs I don't consider it regardless of anything else. The M2 met all of my needs and I absolutely love it.

For me it was a combination of things. I wanted a car with rear wheel drive, 2-doors, 6-speed manual with enough grunt for the straight line but is a polished all around performer in that it can also handle and stop well and didn't cost silly money.
But most importantly, the car had to involve me as a driver and make me feel special. That is, the car wasn't doing all the work and some of my skills as a driver would make a difference; It's the spiritual successor to my E46 M3. That's why I never looked at AMGs or Audis (AWD, DSG, yawn) and apart from a Porsche (one day, but they are a big step up!!), the M2 was the only car for me.

I was blown away by the m235i reviews 2 years ago. Although it was perfect as is, they also rumored a proper m version will follow. So, I decided to wait for it and I'm glad

I have been a devoted manual transmission driver from the beginning and I am certainly not ready to give it up. I'm currently driving a manual F10 535i and recently parted with a manual E89 Z4 with the N54. The M2 has the rare combo of fun, style, and soul -- all while being practical and a good value. Two other factors are the 2 series has great crash test results with the IIHS and does not bump insurance rates like some other performance vehicles. I look forward to taking delivery of mine!

Always wanted an M car. When the M2 was announced, I knew that was it, and decided to not go for an M235i. Had an e90 for six years but sold it earlier this year and even though I bought a brand new Infinit Q50S, I was not nearly the same car as my e90 330i. Can't wait to take a loss on my Infiniti and get my 2017 MG M2 by end of March.

After having a few BMWs, the last a very capable e46 330i, I purchased a Mustang "Bullitt" in 2008. That has been a fun car with loads of American V8 to enjoy.
I traded the 330i for that because 2007-2008 was a wet winter and the e46 leaked like a sieve! Every regulator had failed, and the sunroof as well, and I was more than a little perturbed with BMW at the time. The Bullitt "spoke" to me as a sleeper (beefed up and de-badged), and the M2 appeals to me in the same way. It's a little more in your face, but once the badges come off, most won't know what it is, and that's the way I like it. I got convinced by the plethora of positive reviews and was looking for a slot on an M2 or a deal on a 2015 or 2016 M4. An ad cropped up on CL for a dentist selling his allocation and I jumped on it, not entirely convinced it would work out until the final minute. I drove it home last night! It's amazing how "tight" the car is. I can see how it gets reported as "nervous" as it's just begging to have some tension on the wheel. I've never had a car that rev-matched for me and man, what a treat! After driving a stick for a long time, I'm ashamed to say it does a way better job than me. I'm looking forward to getting to know this beast. |

Sold my e92 ZCP M3 to buy something a little more exotic but ended up missing the character, practicality, and daily drivability. After test driving the new M3's I was very disappointed with the feel, sound, etc. so I waited for the perfect M2 (LBB, 6MT, exec) to come along. After reading so many positive reviews, I purchased without a test drive and haven't regretted one bit of my decision.

I've owned the first year of sport versions of the last three 3-series 4 door sedans (all 6 speed manuals). I was debating on whether to trade my 2012 328i in on the upcoming 2018 3-series or go early on an M235i which I had previously test driven. Bottom line, this was the first chance to own an relatively affordable M car. And the 3-series, while a nice car, has gotten bigger and a little less sporty. So I'm garaging the M2 for the three winter months (insurance discount) and driving it in only in good weather, keeping the 328i as my daily driver the rest of the time.
