The manual is dying. Especially in the luxury business.

Now there is what, BMW, Jaguar (one model), Cadillac, and Porsche?

This is my auto buying decision for 2018. Hoping to see many more comparisons and tests of the TT RS. I'm not a track guy or really want a manual option. Sat inside a TTS recently and hard to deny how nicely done the interior is. That said I happen to like the more upright seating position of the M2. At least I have a while before having to choose.

I agree. It seems very cohesive, like the RS designers were in the room from the beginning of the discussion. Whereas the M2 seems more of an afterthought in terms of styling, as though the M Division designers weren't in the room for the original 2-series design, just given the platform afterwards and told to "make it work".

I'd love to own both, but there's something about the TT's styling I prefer. Especially for the interior, there is absolutely no comparison to me.

Pretty sure the doors are also unchanged.
It seems that M GmbH is forbidden to change the doors on any AG car.

This is glaringly obvious when you look at the F80 rear fenders.
The rear doors are unchanged.
And that forced the M designers to "pry out" the leading edges of the rear fenders to clear the wider rear track.
The M4 doesn't have this issue because the doors are far enough in front of the rear fenders that the body could be flared properly.

If it had been OK to modify the F80 doors, they would have been more smoothly flared into the wider rear fenders.
That's the 2nd worst design problem with the current M3 IMHO (the headlights-stuck-to-grille being #1, even after the LCI.)
Thank god you don't design cars for BMW. The F80 M3's most redeeming quality is its hips. Design "problem"? Are you serious?

Audi definitely has the best interiors in its class. All the materials feel great and are soft/subtly bouncy to the touch.

Already warned the wife that the M2 insides might be a step down from my Audi. That virtual cockpit dash is way cool also!

Better to be conservative than sued for over-stating. Also lower numbers play better With insurance companies and regulators. I seem to remember conspiracies of cars rated right at certain threshold power levels in the past.

Who cares what the detailed numbers are. If you like it, drive it.

Before buying the M2, I have tried to sit in the back seat of a TTS. It is impossible for my head to stay straight (I am only 174cm!). This caused me to look around an find the M2.

You will have the M2 CS in 2018. If the BMW M2 is considered better than the TT RS, the M2 CS should theoretically blow it out of the water.

If someone is not tracking a car, absolute performance is not as critical. There is no "blow out of the water." If numbers were key, we'd all be driving mustangs and Camaros

Just realized I made a mistake. I need to purchase something in 2017 or I'll go crazy. Sold the 911 and now driving a Fiat 500 Sport. Nice car, but.....

Is absolute performance even critical at track days? You're not competing or anything, it's just about enjoying the drive.

I get that it's fun being able to say "my car is faster than yours" but really. What do we love about our cars? It's the feeling you get when driving it. How you feel when looking at it. Thinking about it.

I haven't driven the TT but I don't like the girly looks, the girly image, the fact that it's an Audi, the AWD, the general blandness of the thing...

Just compare:

While color is subjective I think the TT-RS looks better in this Nardo Grey color and also with the Black Optic package and black wheels. (it could still use better wheels). Unfortunately there are not many photo's available yet. That's the other thing with the Audi, there are more option packages and the ability to go Exclusive if you are into that kind of thing. Here is a link to a video and a photo which shows a better and much more aggressive color combo IMHO.

Just waiting the Z5....
It will be somehow on par with TT's price, but totally different style than M2... more sporty and aggressive!
Otherwise we compare apples and oranges...

That nardo gray is awesome!

Too bad the RS is $20k more than the M2. I could use AWD here in upstate.

So I understand that your intention is to drive the M2 form the back seat, then it makes sense

TT RS:
The TT RS looks awesome and not girly at all, sounds amazing and its interiors, where you will be most of the time, is several tiers ahead.

Also, it will be more expensive by 10-13k, not 20k.

Let's not forget the TT RS does 0-60 in 3.2 (normally 3.5, conservative official 3.7).

The M2 wins (probably) on the fun factor but I am leaning towards the Audi (its the only Audi that interests me), because I will probably be sharing it with my wife.

Just curious, you are saying then that a baby car seat fits fine in there?

Actually the best feeling of all is out-driving someone while in an "inferior" car. Either out running them or shadowing them with more composure.

That does feel good. But not quite as good as owning and driving a superior car
