Another "should I?" Thread

I have an opportunity to buy a AW 6spd with $11k in m performance parts, otherwise no markup over msrp. I can take delivery mid nov... no wait list, etc... I have a good relationship with this dealer.

I'm worried about depreciation, it's a 65k m2 of which 11k in m performance parts (I think it might have just about everything). 2017 MY at least.

I realize we don't know what the future lies for the M2, I am a little worried about taking a bath on this if/when a LCI or whatever CS M2 rolls out like mid 2017. That would suck but suck less if I wasn't in it 11grand over.

Has anyone else pulled the trigger on accessories loaded M2? Should I fucking do it?!?!? Good value prop or am I stupid?

Garage List
I had to get mine with MPE and a few other M parts as well. Only about $6k compared to your $11k. Still I could do without MPE. I went for it but I doubt the M parts add much, if anything, on resale.

Only do it if you plan on keeping the vehicle long term or you already planned on purchasing those parts. While I know the M2, like any hot new car, is hard to resist, it is not worth jumping into such a large purchase and making compromises just to have it now. A little patience will go a long way to getting what you want.

If you're trying to convince yourself to get car with a bunch of MPE parts you want anyway for the cost of MSRP, do it! I mean a base m2 in the showroom would be at least $5k over? So it's like $6k in free MPE parts?

That logic isn't helping is it...

I don't know about up there, WA is super hot for the M2, but there are more than a few around the bay area and LA that don't have all the MPE parts that could probably go for somewhere around 3k over MSRP...

Errr... thanks guys for the thoughts! Can't/won't pay over msrp for nothing. But sort of ok paying 11GRAND over for something! Haha I'm sick in the head. I'm not super hot and heavy on the M perf parts but don't mind then, seem pretty cool? The exhaust at least I would prob buy anyway and that's like 5k worth of the cost. So maybe?

Just feel stupid dropping M3 money on a lowly M2. Haha. I've had a F80 M3 before and it was cool. I want something smaller and more impractical since this will be a weekend fun car and track days. But goddammit 70k after taxes!!!

If you want impractical go for the C7 Grand Sport. Albeit maybe not smaller than an M2, but actually worth the $70K IMO. Especially if this is just a fun/weekend car.

Then why don't you get something significantly smaller, lighter, and sporty. Sounds like you want a hard core sports car, not an M car.

Get a used Cayman GTS. Or splurge for the Boxster Spyder. I personally will be getting one of those two over the M2.

Exactly. Or a Lotus Exige S if it's really a track car.

Keep in mind that if you want to sell it you'll be getting ZERO value for all those extras. When i sold mine in a HOT market I couldn't even get my Xpel money back. NOBODY will pay over MSRP for a used car private party!

Well somebody might, but it's like trying to find a dumb unicorn in a jungle full of snakes.

Just keep in mind you're not going to see close to $11k back for that stuff when you sell a car. Sure folks will pay a small premium for extra goodies, but nothing major.

On this tip. It's already 55/60k. What's another 5/10. Enthusiast forums are notoriously cheap! I would know, used to spend a lot a time on the deal and still do but there comes a point where more time and energy invested outweighs just dropping the extra cash. Just buy the thing you like and enjoy it.

I am combating my deep desire for instant gratification by trying to remind myself that my M235i is fine until I can get the M2 I want at MSRP (or less). I don't want the Executive Package which means my car must be ordered and I will just have to sit tight until a dealership is willing to give me an allocation at MSRP. I know in the long run I will be happier getting the exact car I want at a fair price, and if that means having to wait another year, so be it. I plan to keep the M2 for ten years, but any mark-up I pay (and remember you will also pay TAX on the mark-up, on TOP of the mark-up) is money that is just being given to the owner of the dealership for nothing. Hanging in there is hard but there are other things to obsess on in the meanwhile.

Love the title to this Thread! Sounds very familiar!
BTW, I passed on my "opportunity" for some of the very reasons you note above.

Everything you guys say makes a lot of sense. Trust me I have kicked around the idea of another car but for the budget of low 60k before tax, the choices are very slim. I'm hesitant to buy something used as well. And I genuinely like the M2. Someone here put it well... the car would be close to 60k (with mpe) so what's another 5k on top of that? At least I get some carbon stuff and winglets. Hahahah.

And then of course the other side of my brain says I'm stupid and will never get any of that back. As someone else said here, this would have to be something I hold for the long haul. I do plan to mod it with track goodies, drive it to work on sunny Friday's, would be nice to throw the kids in the back seat on weekend mornings.

I need to make a decision quickly, otherwise my dealership will throw on paint protection and other bullshit incl 2nd sticker and put on the showroom floor. Then I'm really out.

Nice thanks for sharing! keep us posted on what you end up doing

The Vette GS isn't doing it for me in the looks dept. I'm sure it's a beast on the track. I've owned a 996 GT3 as well so getting a cayman (unless GT4 but too expensive) isn't doing it for me either.

Btw love your jag f type, looks sick!

Thanks.
Still deciding on the C7 (really the only vette that has gotten my attention). But then again, I already have what some refer to as the "European Corvette" F-Type Coupe R!

Well guys I decided to say "fuck it" and claimed this car. It's currently on the boat going to CA. ETA 11/6 so I'm guessing right before thanksgiving I should be able to take delivery. Super excited. Hope I made the right decision. LOL

You're going go get hosed when you resell it. You might be able to get a grand or so more for the exhaust, but the rest of it is gone.

Enjoy the car and don't think about it.
