I bought the matching screws and washers yesterday, I am having my Xpel detailer install the cap tomorrow.

They will wrap the roof with 3m gross black and Xpel the caps&roof as well. Everything else was fully Xpel wrapped already.

You need to remove the mirror to install those.

The original Mperformance has screws and even if you have the caps with clips it's easy to remove the mirror.
Be carful and gentle when you "pop" it out.
No issues

My Xpel detailer did it for me on Saturday. It's worth noting that the OEM m2 cap is a clip install, which can be literally taken off and put back on in 10 secs, but the m CF mirror REQUIRE screws and washers to install and you will have to uninstall the mirror first, pretty well explained as following link, as a fellow member mentioned earlier:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=708155

It's not an easy 5 mins work. My everything (front grille, side grille, mirror cap, CF interior and SS pedal) was done by a man in an hour or so, who was a mechanic from a BMW dealer. The CF mirror was the most time consuming component, followed by SS pedal. The most difficult part is that you have to be very careful getting OEM mirror out, they looked like going to break if tried too hard.

See pics below.

I installed the M performance CF caps recently. I was really worried about the mirrors but used a 90 degree trim pulling tool as is spec'd out in the BMW service manual and gently pulled the mirrors straight out- they come out quite easily and without tension or trauma- the rest of the surgery is a breeze. All of the online videos I have seen are using the wrong tools to remove the mirror (kitchen scrapers, a metal hook, fingers, and screw drivers).

Angle mirror all the way down to ground, slip in wide tool at top margin of mirror and gently pull mirror out parallel to its angled down position. It slowly eases out without any drama or snapping. It will be tethered by heating wires- I used painters tape to tape it out of the way to the window.

Do you have a link to this service manual? - is it in BMW Rheingold?

Agree - every owner should have a set of these non-scratch trim removal tools.

The parts manager at my dealership pulled the manual page up on his screen and walked me through the process. I bought the tools on Amazon. Sorry I don't have a link. The job was done easily before I even considered taking pictures; literally both sides complete in 20 minutes and I was going very slow to avoid errors.

I think the "trick" is the broad tool applies even force over greater area compared to a hook or screw driver, etc......and it doesn't flex like a kitchen scraper.

Ahh that makes sense, I thought you may have had your hands on a big M2 Service PDF document, very handy. Will check later on Rheingold.

Indeed, the tools have the right amount of stiffness.

Thanks for the help!

I think I've found it - see attached.

As OBXBMW says, it's pretty straightforward once you have the mirror out the way.

A toolset like this would be good to have:

Interesting. That is actually not the same page I was shown.

The method I was shown used the widest tool in the picture of my original post. The 90 degree bend was placed behind the mirror on the top (not bottom) and I did not ***pry*** .

I ***pulled*** straight out. Hope that that makes sense.

(IMHO); here is the RIGHT METHOD of getting the mirror out BUT with the WRONG TOOL ; when you use the wide angled tool it just eases out because the wide tool applies pressure across the top of the mirror. pull, don't pry.

Without a 90 degree bend in the tool you will be prying and not pulling. I'm sure it will come out but IMHO suboptimally.

try this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/PIECE-CAR-T.../dp/B004OEL4LW

use the widest tool

Sounded bad but I was told this method (pulling out the cap sharply) would work and decided to give it a try.
Do you know where I could get those same covers in the US? I know AutoID ships to US, but the exchange rate and shipping cost drive up the cost quite a bit.

Went to my body shop to do some work and he fitted the CF mirrors.

After:

TBH, the side looks to stick out bit more.. not as flush. Then again I can't comment as I've not seen OEM ones fitted close up.

Gonna bit off-topic here, but my BMW dealer (f**k them) drilled holes to mount the reg' plate (which I've mentioned couple times NOT to):

And gonna spray the side wings from matt black to alpine white:
