Absolutely you should expect it to consume more of the following than your average commuter vehicle.

1- fuel
2- tires- especially rear tires!!
3- oil
4- brake pads
5 - brake rotors
6- yes! tires again! Don't expect much more than 20k for a set of tires
Let's ignore the obvious and ask the same question a different way.
If the M2 is driven the same as an M235i, will it need brakes, tires and oil replaced more often?

I mean, are these serious questions, or are you just killing time?

Again, if a few hundred in pads, or a few k less on tire wear is a concern, this isn't the car for you.

No one can answer these questions at this point anyway, and you know that.

Let's ignore the obvious and ask the same question a different way.
If the M2 is driven the same as an M235i, will it need brakes, tires and oil replaced more often?
You keep asking and I'll keep saying it the same way.

Are the tires on the M235i summer only tires or are they all season ?? Even if they have the same tires the M2 will brake harder, accelerate harder, turn sharper and all these will wear faster on an M2. Most importantly, there is another 60-90 ft lbs of torque that will be going to the rear tires every time you accelerate.
Don't expect to get more than 20k miles out of your rear tires, PERIOD.

Are the brake pads on an M2 a more aggressive compound? Do you think that an M2 stops more quickly from 60-0 than an M235i? I would bet so! Will the brake pads last as long ? Not if an M2 is faster than an M235i!

Are the brake rotors more expensive on an M2 than an M235i ? If there is a more aggressive pad , will the rotors wear a little more quickly ?
Yes they will !

If you weren't aware of any of this , I think you are officially ready for an M235i.

Make that 3-1/2 (the X1 is my wife's car). We were going back and forth as to which vehicle we were going to sell when M2 shows up, her X1 or my 228. As much as she prefers the ride and quiet of the F22, she's not a fan of Estoril (yeah, I know, I'm keeping her anyway), loves the higher up seating of the cute-ute, and selling the X1 would leave us with only a diesel F350 as our "practichauler" vehicle. So, the X1 stays and the F22 is on the block (any takers?).

Sure, the 2017 will theoretically be LCI, but that won't likely be anything drastic anyway. The change in maintenance is a real consideration factor moving to 2017 models and beyond.
Right off the bat, it'll get iDrive 5.0, wireless charging and LED headlights. Those alone are enough for me to be ok with losing an extra year of maintenance. Not ideal situation of course, but that's one of the reasons I haven't ordered my F80 yet.

i have a 328i m-sport.

and my front pads have already been replaced, and the rear pads need to be replaced soon.

my car has under 34k miles on it. i'm guessing you can easily wear your pads down on an m2 in under 50k miles

Valid points - just depends on what means more to each individual buyer to be honest.

I have a potentially dumb question. If you track your car can you change the pads to race pads just for track days?

It is unfortunate that BMW is going in this direction, the included maintenance for 50,000 miles made it easier to justify the premium pricing on their cars and make resale a nice proposition for cars under 50,000. Having said that the new program is still more generous than any of their competitors so I won't get too excited about it. I am hoping to get a 2016 and this gives me another reason to hope I can pull it off sooner rather than later.

In terms of maintenance I have been doing it on my 06 330i for years (208,000 miles) I find BMW's to be very easy to maintain and for the most part repair so I am not too worried about doing a brake job from time to time.

Hell Yeah!!!! I'll take 20k all day long. But I seriously doubt 20k unless you drive it like you bought the wrong car.

Not a dumb question, I was in your position a couple of years ago.

Certain pads exist that will do okay on both street and track, but they will not be great in either one.

Unless you just plan on doing one or two track days a year, I would recommend getting a separate set of track pads as they will pay for themselves very quickly.

Of course. If you're driving the car to the track, the decision is yours as to whether you want to drive on the pads sounding like a cement truck from hell, or get there early/leave late and swap them at the track.

You may also consider keeping a set (or 3) of track rotors and swapping them with the pads...

Don't the M models trail the regular models by a year or two for the refresh? Or would the LCI come out for both the M2 and F22 at the same time? Doesn't make much sense for the refresh to come out after only half a year of production.

Yes brake wear primarily depends on driving habits and city vs highway miles. However, those factors being equal would be useful to know the M2's brake wear vs the other 2-series.

Really? iDrive 5.0 is nice but gimmicky. Many of the features probably won't make it to the 2 series anyway. They need to make it carplay compatible like they said....maybe they'll update the 2016 version with carplay.
