Interesting. Based on just this thread data, the 6MTs skew heavily (if not entirely) towards the MPSS.

Not sure but I've seen some M3/4 with contis, sales rep told me some of the cars delivered (M2) had contis, I think they just spread them out in every market.

That blows man, sorry to hear that. But if you have a heavy right foot can swap them out quickly.

Just picked it up today. MPSS!

Build week was 49 and it's a 6MT for anyone who's keeping track of that.

Both my week 47 build and the build 48 that my dealer got next had contis and both were 6sp. I'm positive trans has nothing to do with it. I do think more people get stick with this car and more get mpss so the odds are probably better, but overall, they have some contis that just get added in and if your car is next, so be it.

It would be totally lame and biased for anyone at the factory to look at the transmission and think one deserves one tire over another.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what the real-world benefit would be of a non-star spec PS4S vs the M2-specific version of the PSS?

I'm hoping that Michelin will make an M2-specific version of the PS4S like they did for the PSS!

I'm not aware that there is anything "m2 specific," other than the size, which is a general size for tires.

When the M2 first came out BMW was advertising the "specially designed MPSS" for it.

All marketing BS, it's gone away since.

interesting data by Kabrich with info on how the Continental Sport contact 6 OUTPERFORMED the Michelin Pilot Supersport in a European tire test last summer ..

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&postcount=159

"The SportContact 6 proved superior to the Pilot Super Sport in both dry and wet conditions. The SportContact 6 was the quicker of the two tires on track, and the evaluators preferred the Continental's steering feedback and handling balance as well.

While this is only one comparison test, the result represents a departure from nearly all performance tire comparison test of the past few years. The Pilot Super Sport has bested every other street performance tire (especially) in terms of track performance, and so the fact that the SportContact 6 was able to beat the Michelin at its own game, so to speak, is noteworthy indeed. Not true. Auto OEM engineers work with tire manufacturers to develop vehicle-specific combinations of tire size, tread pattern, compound, etc., optimized to meet their objectives. The M2 version of the PSS is the result of such an effort. BMW and other manufacturers do this all the time. If you can get a star spec version of a tire for your BMW, spend the extra few dollars to do so.

This was explained to me by a tire & suspension testing engineer working for a large automaker on their flagship model. I was somewhat skeptical at first, but since then have independently researched the topic and have been surprised to learn how different various versions of tires of identical make and size can be.

If you have a choice, get the star spec version.

Here's a sample article if anyone is interested in reading further: http://blog.caranddriver.com/tread-r...acement-tires/

I am well aware and stand by my point. If the MPSS was so special and they spent all this time developing it for the M2, they wouldn't be loading cars with the Conti's. Companies aren't going to spend big money on modifying a soon-to-be-discontinued tire for BMW only to place it on just 60% of the cars produced.

The review is on a tire that was brand new last year and I'm not even sure is available here in the USA yet. It has no reviews on Tirerack and it was not included in the latest CR review (where the 5 year old PPS came in first).

I'm not dismissing that it isn't possibly a great tire - I'm just saying it is a little like the PS4 - not here yet and not something to really consider (since you can't even buy it on Tirerack for most sizes). Now if BMW were to be able to GET this tire and actually put it on one of our cars, I don't think you would see people bitching so much.

Cause at the end of the day, the ContiSport 3 is a 10 year old tire vs. a PSS which is a 5 year old tire and still winning comparison tests.
