For those who tracked the TR4's or any square set up, have you tried running in MDM mode on track? Is MDM intervening more and cutting power because the square set up has the same diameter tires front and back?

I am saying this because the F87 rear tires diameter are approximately 2.5% larger than the front. Based on the information on the F82 forum running the same diameter all around will increase MDM/DSC intervention (as it thinks the rear slips).

I did research the F82 forum and found the following thread that contains valuable information.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ight=staggered

In summary, if you tracked your M2 with a square set up in MDM mode, please share your experience, are the nannies always intervening?

Thanks
Would like more insight on this as well!

@Mini135i I know you run track set up with DSC off - wondering if you ever tried running in MDM mode (sport+ without pressing the DSC off) on the track?
if so, do the nannies intervene a lot since you are running a square set up?
If not, maybe trying it for a session next track day!

I've been doing my research and some say DSC will intervene while others are saying DSC is adaptive and should (in theory but not proven) adapt to the new set up and not intervene much in MDM mode.

I have a thread on this in the track section of this forum:

Well, I have tracked the car with MDM on (sport +) with the OEM wheels and tires. Tried it when I first got the car. And although that is not the exact answer to question asked it will provide some perspective.

Even with the stock wheels and tires, for me, the MDM mode is extremely intrusive when driving on the track. However, I have been driving track for over 15 years so my perspective is just that, I am very used to driving cars relatively quick around the track without any computer interference. So even the slightest computer interference slows me down and decreases my connection with the car. Now if it rains, I'm the first to slow down and turn MDM back on

Can the car be tracked with MDM on, you bet. In fact, most would agree it is a good starting point, others just stick with MDM for more safety, nothing wrong with that. Personal preference. Will there be a big difference in the square setup compared to stock wheels? No, not that much. The higher the level (increasingly faster) of your track experience the more the MDM will intrude, simple as that. Wheels/tires within reason are not a factor. I have driven the car incredibly hard on a secluded street with the square set up and MDM on, it might be 1-2% more sensitive than the stock wheels, but in the end, both set ups will work on the track just fine. My E46 M3, and E92 M3 were all the same with square set ups too, no issues.

IMHO, I seriously would not even worry about it. If you are getting computer interference with the square setup, you'll get it with the stock setup too. MDM just interferes very early, just how it is

Hope that somehow helps...

Many thanks Mini135i, appreciate your input.
I may look into having euro MDM as some members on this forum found it to be less intrusive.

Hmm. Like the price of those trm wheels.
21.85 lbs each wheel. How much do the stock wheels weigh?
Interested in this wheel&tyre package.

It is recommended to use the TPMS sensors, even for track or winter packages. Without the sensors, the car will be limited to "comfort mode".
When I tracked the car with factory wheels, with low pressure, I would click reset and while the system was measuring I could run in any mode. I just put on the TR square wheels w/o sensors, so I went into the reset menu and while it was measuring I could drive in any mode....the system will keep checking and stay on 0% but I think I have fooled the system to allow me to track w/o TPMS.....will go the RA this weekend and see if I have outsmarted it.

I can't answer your question on mdm with a square setup. I can tell you though that mdm with the stock setup is too invasive for my preference. At my first track event a year ago with my then new M2 I thought I would go mdm while I got acclimated to the car. After 1 session I went full dsc off. The mdm was too invasive for me. The car is very suited to the track and is very controllable. So I found that using mdm, while it provides a margin of safety, does also interfere with the cars dynamics somewhat.

Do you need to buy aftermarket lugs to work with the aftermarket wheels?

Yours a 2017, right? I'd heard this was a 2017 model year "feature"...

Please do report back...I'm at this decision point right now...about to get track wheels/tires, and another $200 in transponders is a bit of a fun sucker. Particularly if not necessary...

2017....will be at Road Atlanta this weekend so we will see how it works. By the way, you can code out the TPMS completely

No need. The TRM C4 wheels will reuse OE lugs.

Are the TRMotorsport C4's direct fit without a centering ring or spacer?

How many track miles have various people put on these? They look like the way to go. I've just never heard of the company, and I've seen threads with other less-known manufacturers prone to cracking/bending etc.

Keith, thank you. What are you hearing on the street about the Hankook RS-4, faster than the RE71 at autocross?

I am on the fence because of this, I had such good experience with the RS3 that I dont want to pass on them until I hear some feedback from actual tests!

But definitely will pick up a set of these rims to track. Just not sure if the RE-71R or the RS4..

Unfortunately, I have not heard too much about the RS-4 yet as it just got released this month. Hopefully will hear more in the upcoming weeks.

The TRMotorsport C4 is a direct fit with tire size 265/35/18. 275/35/18 will require a 3-5mm spacer.

Tire Rack has been selling this brand for over a decade now and have had very good results for track use. Any wheel can bend or crack if abused properly, although we have had very little problems with TRM wheels. I believe there was some discussion of this earlier in this thread as well.
