Quick question to those of you who ticked this option, when you play a particulary bass heavy song do you get any rattles/vibration from the rear shelf??

It seems to be a certain frequencies and is a tat bit annoying. Just wondering if others have experienced this before i head to the dealers.

Last thing i want is them pulling it apart and it getting worse.

I get some from the passenger door area. I do have a rear deck rattle but only seems to be audible over bumps. I'm going to have the dealer take a look when I have them change my oil at 6k mies.

If you haven't yet check the Dr. strange love thread in the 2 series nav section. I had a coupe and now a vert, vert inherently sonically inferior but you'd be amazed at how much better everything will sound if you do nothing other than disconnect center and install the active sound harness. $50 total and you'll be amazed.

I do have an annoying rattle in the rear deck, but it isn't tied to the stereo specifically. It sounds like metal to metal and is pervasive. I am about frustrated enough with it to take it to the dealership as I haven't located the source myself.

Perhaps this is the same rattle and you're hearing it because of certain low frequencies being played through the speakers?

Why are you changing oil at 6k?

I don't go over 5500 miles on oil with any of my cars.

OP, I have the exact same thing in my M235 with HK
It is very annoying, but I don't think the dealer will be able to fix it so I just live with it.

Certain frequencies excite stuff on the rear shelf. On mine its high frequencies. No fix unless you want to rip it apart and try to insulate stuff.

damn, thats what i thought, on the weekend i got into the back and played some songs pressing anything and everything i could find and couldnt locate the source of the rattle.

Ill try again next weekend if i can isolate it. My thoughts are if i cant find the source there is no change the dealer will.

thats a poor show on BMW part, £600 extra for the HK and its not rattle free.

None of my cars with a good stereo are rattle free at all frequencies.

You do realize the car uses synthetic oil right? Changing it every 5,500 miles is just throwing money out for no reason IMO.

Just because its a synthetic oil doesn't mean you can automatically go X number of miles. Engines wear differently from environmental factors, driving style, etc....I do full blackstone tests on all my new cars for the first couple of changes to make sure the TBN numbers are good and there isn't any abnormal wear. If the test show I can safely go higher after a few changes I will.

I ran full synthetic in my Mazdaspeed 3 and blackstone tests showed that 7500 was the best "safe" change interval (it actually matched mazdas recommendation....but they don't give out free oil changes). Probably could have pushed it to 10k if i wanted but why take the risk? I sold it with 120k miles and a motor that had zero oil consumption, got the same mpg, and made the same power on the dyno all as it did when it was brand new.

Also, BMW doesn't have the best reputation for recommending proper maintenance intervals either. When you're paying for everyone's the bean counters will want to absolute minimum done.

yes, but the M2 hold 7 quarts of oil. That's a lot more additives to help neutralize the bad stuff that get in oil. More anti wear additives etc.

If it was 4 Qts, I question that as well. Of course it cant hurt the car one bit, so if you think it needs it there is no down side other than cost.
