First Problem with M2
About 1070 miles on the M2, a month old, normal drives.
Just have my first problem, the right back break light went out, wtf? See pictures, one bulb not lighting up. Anyone experienced this? |

Since you ordered a car with a break light it is quite obvious it would break?!

Yeah. I would suggest going back to BMW and asking them to supply a brake light. That should work better.

So minor problems like this should be covered by BMW or not included in the warranty?

Clearly you are over using the brakes...try downshifting instead

I had the same problem with my 2005 Land Rover Defender. After 8 years one of the tail light globes failed. Potentially dangerous situation.
Had to rectify it as soon as I noticed it. Sorry couldn't resist Not sure if there are multiple light globes in the housing, but should be an easy replacement by the dealer next time you are near. Cheers, Ken Last edited by Mudnut; 11-27-2016 at 04:58 PM.. |

Did a check engine light point to the bulb? or did you just notice it?

Update: I think my car is either haunted or BMW is pranking me, malfunction light alert disappeared and brake light started working properly... for a couple minutes then broke again.

I would still take it in and have them look at it. If it is like my old X5's tail light assembly, each globe slot was live (or negative. not sure which), and the main brake light shorted out, and burned a section of the assembly metal. Was too expensive to buy a new assembly, so ended up soldering a bit of the metal, to form a bridge across the damaged section. Worked well for the next 5 years until I traded it in on a new one.
Still should not be a problem, especially under warranty. Ken |

Mine did this last week too! So open the boot/trunk/rear orifice. Two little plastic flaps on the light assembly open to reveal an M6 flange nut under each flap. Remove with a 10mm AF socket. No need for a ratchet or breaker bar (!) if you have a screw driver handle attachment. Wriggle the light assembly and it will pop out of its home. Discoonect the harness and retire to somewhere cosy with your lamp assembly. Carefully pop the clips and separate the front and back housings. You will see a multitude of individual bulbs. Mine didn't look blown so I used a battery to find the recalcitrant globe. A replacement globe A$1.15 from the local service station and back together. All good. The warning light resets once you press the brake pedal.
This is not a how to just what I did and if you drop the light or scratch the paint it was a dingo. My bulbs were Hungarian. |
