Where can the M2 CS/CSL lose some weight.
When the M2 CS/CSL is made, what are the main areas where weight savings can be achieved and what are the areas where the weight is expected to go up.
Following is a list of where weight can be saved: Power seats delete: ~50 lbs savings, Sound deadening: ~40 lbs in a subaru and I am assuming the same amount here. DCT: ?? I Drive: ?? I Pad on the dash: ~2lbs tops. |

Don't forget power folding mirrors , idrive , screen, backup sensors all the extra wiring that goes with idrive and sensors and putting 18" forged wheels.

In total I'm hoping for: S55 Carbon roof Carbon drive shaft M3/M4 mirrors Less concerned about but would be nice: Carbon hood Carbon trunk Wing and Splitter Roll cage What I would really like but I think is unlikely to happen: Flared fenders with 265/295 tires Carbon ceramic brakes from F80 Spartan interior (no iDrive) In spirit I hope the car is like A Shelby 350GT meets a Cayman GT4. Oh and also must have the option for manual transmission.

Wheels, brakes, carbon shaft, carbon boot and a basic interior will help towards this but also, the manual saves 30kg straight away, but I worry they will put the DCT in and not save weight..I have the DCT and I like it, especially when going really hard and fast |

Well, it really is the cheapest (and healthiest) way to cut down the total weight of the car. And we've all seen the guys that obsess about every ounce they're reducing with their CF seats that cost $4000 while they walk around with BMI's approaching 40.
Just sayin' |

I do not like a m4-GTS-like approach that make your car basically useless on the street and not as capable as it looks on the track.
A CS retrofit would be nice - give some basic weight saving (carbon roof), fine tune the suspension, upgrade the engine and some cosmetic, which won't make a GTS/CSL price tag. Though that'd be the most disloyal thing to current m2 owners.

I don't like the GTS approach either. Don't want the water injection technology. Just put in the S55, same CF parts as a regular m4 + CF bonnet/hood, lighter seats, less sound deadening, no I drive and half I pad screen.
It should not be anywhere close to the GTS price tag. It's basically everything in the regular M4 minus the size. If anything, it should be cheaper than an M4 although I don't see that happening. M2 owners should not feel bad. It's a great car for the price and has won pretty much every competition that it's been in, more so than the M4. |

There is one thing I dislike about the M4 GTS approach: The pricetag(and unavailability)
A client of mine has one. It''s a blast. About weight savings. Don't go the 'let go off DCT and get the manual' way, I love manuals don't get me wrong(not kidding) , this is 2016 almost coming to an end and even if we say we don't, laptimes etc. are more important than we think and marketingwise they do their thing. I thought the M2 already has >30lbs less sound isolating stuff than M235i? BMW(M) always was about compromise, even the magnificent E46CSL had a 'modern' SMG box, but still was usable as a daily. It's not Caterham/Radical or something like that. Even CS/L/GTS whatever it's called will be a 'daily drivable car'. Cheers Robin |

Yep, Anymore taking away more of the sound insulation will have the car sounding like an old biscuit tin. It's on the edge already for me. Last edited by Nine Lives; 11-27-2016 at 03:44 AM.. |

I agree that the DCT is important. Manuals won't be there for long so they should give an option to get a manual on this one. I want to get one that I will never sell before they're gone forever. |

I think there is actual more to be gained with wider tires on a street car than the carbon hood/roof/trunk. I'm crossing my fingers for all of those things. |

Exactly. I'm getting a manual M2 now because I think it's the last great RWD M car. Next generation M2 will be a four pot with AWD. Next M3/M4 will be even bigger and possibly AWD as well. M5 is just utterly pointless to me. Not to mention the X5Ms of this world... I'm just going to drive it on public roads and want it to be as engaging as possible. If I'm able to do it financially I will keep it for a long time. ps. I had an M2 with DCT last summer and if I tracked my car and cared about lap times and things like that I would definately go that route again. |
