I'm a fan. Bring it to the US without the orange accents but up the production numbers to 1500 to 2000 per year. 700 M4GTS is too low and doesn't get the car into real circulation. The M4 GTS is so rare and exclusive it is actually inconsequential in the main stream enthusiast community.

No way they let the little brother be faster, Germany don't play dat Driving a 6MT I think you do understand why some people prefer them. Not everybody cares about shaving tenths, some like to be engaged and to have fun with the challenge |

Sick. The usual debate over MT vs Auto bores me. Once MT was faster and more efficient than Auto. Those days are over, so the MT guys have moved on to subjective stuff like involvement. Driving a DCT fast with the paddles is pretty damn involving even if your left foot's only use is to hold you in the seat better.

Driving a DCT is always less involving **by definition*. To say otherwise is preposterous. It's the raison detre for an automatic transmission, so that one doesn't have to do part of the work ! If one were Juggling items - when is juggling two items ever " more involving " than three ? You may be able to focus better on the two items but clearly there is less involvement. Being more focused on fewer tasks does not equal more involving |

I have had 9 manual transmission cars too - so I totally get it. I too enjoy the experience of a manual transmission. I also enjoy a PDK/DCT. It's just not a topic that can be settled on objective criteria.

I cannot begin to imagine why BMW would do this. It does not make good business sense. Unless the M2 is in the plans to become the DTM racing platform I don't see it happening.
Regarding the MT vs DCT debate the U.S. is obsessed with NASCAR (4 speed MT), straight line speed and manual transmissions. Europe follows F1 and DTM both with DCT variants. The days of MT in racing outside of historic's is about to go the way of the horse and buggy. In my track car I have a MT (e36 M3). I would be lying if I said I wouldn't trade it for a DCT car. Having driven COTA, Barber, NCM, Heartland and others multiple times I don't believe that I would enjoy the track sessions any less with DCT. In 20 years of driving I have never come off the track thinking about how much I enjoyed using my left foot as part of the process of shifting. I love the technology of the DCT. I spent two days driving with Brian Redmond two years ago. The year before that it was Justin Bell. Both of them marveled over the F1 style transmissions and how great they are. I would be surprised out if either, given the option, would drive a manual. That being said there are probably equally as many purists so simply the best option is "to each their own". Fortunately the voice of America is big enough that most manufacturers will still deliver manuals to America. Even if they are ultimately slower on the track with comparable drivers. |

Now imagine if they do the same thing on an even smaller car, which I don't think they will, but that's another story. I'm all about variety!... even if I can't afford them

This is going to be a rumor and only a rumor. If BMW wants to give us a true driver's car it needs to go back to it roots. Shed the unwanted pounds and bloated current roster of cars and give us cars with road feel and handling that was once BMW's signature.
