The only thing that ynguldyn has confirmed is that the MY19 M2 will have a CS version with the S55 engine. He still hasn't said what the MY18 LCI changes will be and also what engine the car will have.

don't think that is relevant in this case, but he did already state it'll be a "mild refresh" just this month. The M2 LCI (as well as all other BMW model LCIs since the beginning of time) will simply adopt the core model's common bits. We know of changes in lighting, iDrive, climate controls, in the 2/3 series.

I'd venture to guess that it was probably easier to justify to the bean counters to use an existing engine that already makes that power than change the turbo in the base car or the B58. |

One more for open / closed deck argument
When I check the cylindrical head gasket, which should be different if it's closed deck, the part number shows as used on many vehicles. I know they technically could use it but you would have thought it would be a standalone part number for a closed deck motor https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=11127599212 |

Just heard back from the second dealership. The SA told me that the foreman or the technicians were not sure if the engine block was open or closed. He told me that the training material they have reference the N55B30T0 version but still shows the open deck design.
They were told that the engine in the M2 is the same as what was in the M235i but that there were a few parts that were different (this is SA lingo and not the technician/foreman). He told me he will know for sure and let me know when they get to open up an engine. |

Thought the point in this article ties with this thread:
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...w-m2-spy-shots It's interesting because the article alludes to a rumor about the 2018 M2 potentially upgrading to a M-enhanced B58 motor. Since the B58 stressed temperature management, it makes sense that the high performance M2 would upgrade to that motor. Also the fact that the B58 produces the same amount of torque (369 lb-ft) in the M240i as the M2 in overboost, suggests that the M2 is in need of an upgrade. We know that the competitors, namely the RS3 and future AMG CLA 45, are coming out with 400+ hp, the M2 needs to also up the ante. The M2 CS going up against the RS3 and AMG CLA 45 doesn't make any sense IMO. But an upgraded M-enhanced B58 motored M2 pumping around 400 hp does. I think the M2 CS compares more to a hotter AMG CLA 45 Black Edition, if Mercedes ever decides to make one. What do you guys think? I think it'd be pretty cool for BMW to go with the B58 and also produce an even hotter CS version just in case Audi or Mercedes decides to come out with their hotter versions.

I am pretty sure there has been confirmation from BMW that the N55 is closed deck (not just the BMWNA marketing material) - too lazy to look up that in all the endless threads on this issue, feel free. But let's leave that to those other threads... and who cares anyway? This thread is kind of petering out anyway since Scott26 has confirmed the N55 in the LCI. |

The M2 is a very nice car as is and I couldn't care less if it had open deck/closed deck/semi closed deck etc. |

Cross-reference (BMWNA website got updated + BMWNA confirmed that the M2 engine (N55B30T0) has indeed an 'open deck' design): http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1328493
