If your initial understanding was MSRP, then do not accept anything else. And don't go back to clarify what the understanding was. As far as your concerned, it started as an MSRP deal and it should end that way. Wait 'till the car shows up then forcefully make your play. |

I was #2 at my dealer, but when I checked in today, the person originally at #1 decided to buy an M4, so I'm up to #1. Was told details / order info will be available on Tuesday.

Don't think so... It's going to be the last hardcore true manual M that BMW ever makes.

It might not I suppose. I won't buy it if it's auto.

It'd be nice for them to just confirm it already, instead of all this subtle backdoor wink and a nod stuff. |

DCT's weigh more than manual transmissions.
If the CSL is really about weight savings than I would think they should at least off a manual.

I'd throw in the E46 M3 CSL in there as well, but I don't know if SMG weighs more or less than the 6MT. Either way, these cars are track focused cars. They are lighter so that they can go faster. And in this case, 6MT is just not as quick no matter how good you are. Not that I care because I find DCT's boring anyway.

I'm supposedly #1 on the list at my local dealer for the M2. I tried putting down a deposit several weeks ago but they said they didn't want any money until we knew more about the car, release time frame, etc. |

My understanding is that they many would prefer to only place an order in the system when they get an allocation. In my contracts with local dealer I am told they don't have a way to set up SKUs in their system that are their own ( it's all set by BMW ag). If that's the case then storing a bunch of deposit money in petty cash is probably more hassle to them than it's worth. Keep your credit card handy though, because if they call with an allocation and are ready to place your order then likely something like 2-5k deposit will be what they are looking for. |

" you will love it... but you will have to wait for it! "
Most (well.. certainly American) car buyers are impulsive... and aren't willing to wait... and this is how the 1M and now the M2 will get into the hands of buyers that truly want the car... as opposed to buyers that simply are well heeled.. Those buyers will get theirs the easy way... at dealers that add large markups.... but the shrewd M2 fan still will be able to get the car... Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 09-15-2015 at 12:25 PM.. |

I just called ********** this morning and they demanded a $5,000 deposit to get on the waiting list...
Update: the dealer followed up with me and now I'm on the list in a reasonable way. They explained they were trying to ward off out-of-state poachers. I think they could have handled it better, but ultimately they took care of me after realizing I was a local/repeat customer. Last edited by jdhiro; 09-17-2015 at 04:45 PM.. |
