DashCams

Has anyone here installed their own dashcams and hardwired them into the car? I saw some videos on other BMWs and not sure which is a good dashcam to use and where to connect to the appropriate fuses? Any comments would be welcomed.

I used this exact vid, it's actually in this thread on a different page. It's a front and rear dashcam connection, hardwired to the battery in the trunk. Shows you where to thread and how to hide all the wire.

Not my video, but I followed everything pretty much to a T, including extending the wire to my dashcam. The vid is exactly what you want, it's regular 2 series.

Remember to get the mini fuses...wasted about 20 bucks on normal sized ones. Also, he takes some extra precautions like installing extra fuse taps in between wires.

I'm interested in this as well. I've seen some mounts that hang from the mirror which look good. This is also a good location for a Radar detector; anyone have both a dash-cam and a Radar?

Do you have any photos you can share of the install? I was considering the DR750S myself. Also considering the Valentine 1 as well... Sounds like your setup is exactly what I'd look to re-create.

How does it fit; I didn't find any installation instructions on the website you linked.

Blackvue DR650S front and rear hardwired into the fuse box under the trunk floor.

Wiring is all hidden, much like Prodigy. has his setup.

I used the "blackboxmycar" hardwire kit and their add-a-fuse kit so that the dashcam shuts off when voltage reaches 12.2v's to save the battery from draining. Works brilliant, and can adjust the shutoff voltage to your choice. I used the add a fuse kit as I didn't want to splice into any factory wiring.

Window Tinting & Dashcam...?

Hi Folks,

I'm looking at getting one of these installed when my car arrives in a few weeks... but I have a question in relation to the rear facing camera and window tinting.

Does anyone have both (i.e. rear window tinting & a rear facing camera), and if so, how did you go about installing..? I know this sounds really obvious (so please excuse the dumb questions), but it seems to me that you can do two things:
  1. Put the tinting on first, and the camera just sees through the tinting (as any passenger would. The mounting tab for the camera sticks onto the tinting, and so potentially relies on the tinting adhesive.
  2. Put the camera in first - the mounting tab sticks to the glass directly. then the tint installer would tint around the camera lens and/or mount.
Of course, the reason I'm asking is that I don't know what the better path is. I like the idea that the rear facing camera hides behind the tinting ... but I'm a bit clueless on this.

And one final question ... while I see that many people go with the Power Magic Pro kit, I was interested to know whether putting in a separate battery for the Dashcam may be kinder on the car battery...? I've had heaps of battery problems with my X6, so I'm wary of the drain the camera may place on the main car battery.

Cheers,

I have option 1 and so does everyone i know with a 2 channel camera and tint, tint the entire window and then just stick the mount on, camera visibility is impaired ever so slightly depending on how dark tint you go but hardly noticable.
If you ever want to remove the rear camera the last thing you would want is a small un-tinted square showing.

I'm using the Power Magic Pro but you could opt for the Cellink battery if your not keen on the PMP.

Thanks Prodigy, that's super-helpful!

I saw the exact option you've mentioned for Cellink when I was browsing ... I just don't know how good/effective it is It certainly looks the goods, but its fairly pricey ... although a lot less than a replacement BMW car battery

Looks good. Was it hard to do the install? What did this baby cost you?
