I get you. Unfortunately I don't think it can be done as of now.

Question so i understand...If you get the app, you can code a little for free but if you pay you get the expert mode to load deeper? Or is that just 2 levels of coding within the pay app hence the take of "expert" mode

The latter. And last I heard, if you have Android, expert mode isnt enabled yet, or at least, it wasnt as of about a month ago.

The basic mode I think is set up by Stephan to allow all the possible dependencies to code with the function you want to achieve i.e. macro coding. Even then I had to go into the expert mode to complete the coding of folding / unfolding mirrors with comfort setting because the KOMFORTSHLIESSUNG_PA setting did not activate. In the expert mode you can see all the available options on your car to code. The problem with expert mode is that you need to know if the options you want to code is dependent on another option. You also need to make sense of the abbreviations and know some German language.

The wifi hotspot option was not on idrive menu nor was wifi on / off checkbox. I coded in expert mode wifi direct and Miracast then coded in expert mode all the WLAN parameters as active which allowed me to see the wifi check box but no wifi hotspot. I have now 2 wifi signals one is the BMW my7vin# Carplay and the other is Direct-3-BMW-my7vin#. I can now check and uncheck wifi using idrive but I can't get to the options menu on my idrive to show / change the wifi name or password. Whenever I click the options button on the center console I only get "split screen / turn screen off". No other options are available no matter which menu I'm in.
Is there a way to code it in bimmercode or am I missing something like software / hardware?
I reached out to Stephan but he emailed back saying that he doesn't know why and I should ask forums.
Anyone with the same problem? Anyone knows how to solve it?
BTW I did some programming a while back and know how hard it can be to program without knowing the API or for that matter all of the parameters and their dependencies.
Kudos to Stephan for getting us this far.
I realize this not the F33 forum but this forum has most helpful posts and I don't think the wifi coding is different on either car. Anyone with know how would be greatly appreciated.

The solution was to get a file that contains the unlock code and simply plug this in to USB. Within seconds I had Navigation back, and it's been fine ever since.

The only complication as I understand it, is that you have to have access to a BMW tool / server in order to get this file. As long as you have the VIN, and these tools, you can get the file and everything will be up and running again.

As I said initially, I feel that BimmerCode should have a means to back up this (and other FSC) files on first connect, just in case this happens again. The very fact that there is someone out there charging $65 for this service shows that it happens frequently enough that they feel they can make a bit of extra cash!

So my car is fixed, but I'm $65 out of pocket. I'm still pretty annoyed, but the fact that my brand new car is working again eases the pain a little.
FSC code backup isn't always a proper means of doing it, so I can see why Bimmercode guys aren't able to do so.

FSC repair kit is generally a free process, however it's logged by BMW to prevent abuse thats why most guys charge a fee to do this through the back channels. I don't know how your system got corrupted but the issue was probably you used the factory reset which it must have meant some CAF files got corrupt.

How does putting the phone in airplane mode work. That turns wifi off?

If your OBD dongle is WiFi (instead of BT), then yes, you'd have to manually turn WiFi back on after putting in airplane mode. You essentially want to have the cellular feature of the device completely off to eliminate interference during programming.

personally, ive never had to do this but im on iOS.

David1 boostm3 If you put your phone into airplane mode, you need to turn wifi back on manually. It is to prevent any interruption while you are sending the codes by pressing "code".

Let's just say someone call/text while sending code, I think it might stop in the middle of the process and corrupt the file. Are you willing to take a chance? I know I'm not. It might not be necessary to do that. I'm just taking precaution.

BimmerCode After a certain amount of darkness, the bottom part that's not part of the speedometer/tach, it starts off with white/blue/red then eventually goes full orange, is there a way to stop this?

Better yet, change the whole instrument cluster not be orange?

Good to know. I never really new what airplane mode was for. I thought it was just for when you were on a plane the phone would not transmit any interference.

I run Bimmercode from my non-cellular iPad. That's kind of always in the phone equivalent of airplane mode. My airplane mode turns off WiFi.....so THAT won't work for me.

When you are in airplane mode, it turns off WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular, and Hotspot anything that does wireless connection. But you can always turn back WiFi and Bluetooth on manually at least for iOS devices.

Yep. I get it. I suppose I could turn off bluetooth only, but have never had a problem.

on my iPad, airplane mode turns off both bluetooth an WiFi. If i had cellular, i bet it would turn that off too. I'm not sure about the behavior on every phone, but i'm sure turning on airplane mode would also turn off wifi on a lot of them. Then you couldn't connect to your vGate dongle. Like you said, manually turning off everything but wifi one at a time may be the way to go.

Continued issues with BimmerCode, trying to restore back to factory status

So after the issues I had with my navigation failing after my first try coding with BimmerCode, I've decided based on the recommendation of some other forum members to give E-SYS a try instead.

I got everything loaded on a spare laptop this evening, and was quite easily able to make a backup of my car's current coding (FA, SVT and NCDs) with E-SYS.

Next I decided I'd use BimmerCode to restore things back to the way they were from the factory, using the backups that BimmerCode made during the first run. This appeared to work OK for the Headunit, but the FEM ECU restore kept failing. I tried several times, but actually got to the point where BimmerCode couldn't read or restore that ECU, and I had to use E-SYS to recover it based on the NCD and SVT I backed up earlier this evening. Thank goodness I had E-SYS working and a backup! I don't know where I'd be if I hadn't got that working...

When I tried to read the 'Restored' Headunit coding data in E-SYS, and compare it with the first backup I made today, I found that there were no differences... BimmerCode hadn't actually restored the Headunit data at all; all of my coding settings were still there!

My car is working now, but I'm keen to get it back to factory status so that I have a clean slate to work from with E-SYS.

Is there any way in E-SYS to put the car back to factory state, with the correct factory coding, or is this only possible if you made a backup of your NCD files right at the start? I'm hoping Almaretto might be able to help with the answer to this question...

Another option is if someone has a backup of factory NCD files from a 2018 LCI 6MT / Executive Package / Apple CarPlay that I could compare to. I'm hoping ZPrime might be able to help with this...
