Street Pad Recommendation
Hey fellow Bimmerposters, hoping someone can steer me in the right direction for some replacement street pads. I'm looking for a dramatic reduction is brake dust over stock and no squeaking/squealing/grinding. Would also like a pad that's as "rotor friendly" as possible. I have zero plans to track the car. Just street driving; mostly boring commuting. I'm just fed up with all the brake dust on the wheels. I cant keep up with it!

Power Stop Brake Pads - Low Dust Pads http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1224360
I've had them on the car for a few months now. No squealing whatsoever. I used to clean my wheels every week with the OEM pads even though they looked dirty after driving for 20 miles. Now I can go without cleaning for 4 to 5 weeks. I do have ceramic coating on my wheel barrels and calipers. Initial brake bite isn't strong/grabby as the OEM but they do engage the abs easily. |

I have ceramic coating on the wheels too. Those pads sound like just the ticket. I'll check them out. Thanks for the tip! |

I'm having good results with StopTech Street pads. Changed the pads out 3 weeks ago and have noticeably less dust than the stock pads. Brake performance on the street feels the same as stock.

Also, are you guys swapping out your own pads, taking to the dealer, or to an independent shop? I'm wondering about the need for any special tools or knowledge in order to do the replacement myself, particularly around getting the calipers to retract so the new pads will clear the rotors. You'll only need brake pad sensors if you are currently getting messages about the pads needing replacement. If the service indicator for brakes isn't on then swapping pads and using the current sensor should be fine.
Swapping pads on our cars is really easy, pop the wheels off, tap out the retaining pins (and the springs), pull the pads out, push the piston back (I do it by hand), then slide in the new pads and re-assemble. You should be able to find some YouTube videos or guides on this site, any F80, 82 or 87 videos should work, we're on the same brakes. |

Latest Roundel has an M2 vs M235iR review, I don't have the issue in front of but they have a recommendation for brake pads that worked well at Lime Rock.

Nope, the fluid will go back into the reservoir, so just check that it's not going to overflow (it shouldn't unless you have topped up brake fluid).
It looks like a post of the F80 forums show's a pretty good idea of the process: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1116901 |
