Spotify functionality as a ConnectedApp

Before getting my car, I prepared a bunch of playlists on Spotify for the journey home.
But, unfortunately, the thing insists on shuffling!
  1. Scroll down using steering wheel function
  2. Find the songs I'd like to hear on the instrument cluster display
  3. Highlight it, and click
  4. Song shows with a V next to it for a second
  5. A few seconds later some demon in the car starts playing a different song.

I've tried disabling shuffle both on the car and the phone, then when it didn't work I tried disabling just on phone or just on the car. Still insisting on using shuffle
I can't seem to find a search function either..?

If it matters, I'm using Android (Galaxy S7 edge) via BT in the wireless charging cradle.
Any thoughts?

This happens in my car too I have the same exact phone. You select a song and it plays something different. I also notice my Spotify app will completely disappear from the car menu and I have to revert to "Blue tooth audio". It's very spotty. Usually have to turn off the car and back on and reset my phone.

You have to upgrade your Spotify account to premium paying $9.99 +tax in order to be able to play the songs you pick on the playlist. Or else they just shuffle your songs and insert lots of ads.

That isn't true, I'm a Spotify premium user- and still get that annoying shuffle.
Also suffering the same disconnections as delhang mentions.

Going crazy over this!

Can someone give me some insight as to how I find Spotify as a ConnectedApp? I go to the store through iDrive but its not listed. I see the Concierge, Carplay and a few other items. In the app list, I see weather, news, flickr, etc. No mention of Spotify.

I just had my first year service and had them update idrive as well so it should be on the latest. Maybe I'm overlooking something simple.

You need to have your phone connected, then run the app on it. It will then go into connected mode, and you can select spotify in the media menu.

Not the best integration I have to say, a little disappointing.

Whenever spotify doesn't connect I go to the bluetooth devices menu on idrive and disconnect and reconnect my phone. I also make sure to have the spotify app already running. So far this has made it easier to manage. Ideally of course, it would work as intended...

Same here. So far:
  1. Initial connection and starting the application could be better. An icon on the screen would be great.
  2. Disconection issues.
  3. Shuffle issues.
  4. Why can't I search?! this only causes me more distraction, as I have to open the compartment, take my phone out of the cradle, open, unlock Spotify, navigate to search and retuen phone..

My issue with Spotify is that after selecting it in iDrive, it won't start to play unless I open the app on my phone. Not the end of the world, but a PITA when it's a short drive and the phone is in my pocket. Anyone have this issue or know of a work around?

I'm not sure this is a bad thing. A large portion of the population don't have access to AUX functionality anymore (iPhone users, for better or worse), and they have USB input capability, which is better quality than AUX. Charging during playback to boot. Plus there's always BT.

My issue with the use of Spotify as the ConnectedApp via Bluetooth, is that it sometimes gets stuck displaying the same song info after the song has changed. During this time, using the car controls for the app do not function, and the only input that works is from the phone. This happens fairly often, and the only fix is to disconnect the phone and reconnect. I also have Apple Car Play, and I have zero issues with the functionality of Spotify via BT, but I just hate how much it interferes with iDrive when it's connected so I generally do not use it.

I think it is an issue with Android. I have both a note 8 and iphoneX. Playback is flawless on the Apple phone and yo can pick individual songs, search by voice etc. not so mush on th Note 8
