I go with performance snows. My cars never have enough ground clearance to go in more than 4" of snow anyway.

It's not just snow. Ice or black ice presents a much larger risk than snow. There's also incline/decline that some have to deal with. Performance winter tires could have a difficult time rolling from a stop on slippery incline; same is true for stopping while rolling down a slippery decline and/or under sudden hard braking.
It is very dependent on the individual's commute and surrounding, and his/her adversity to risk for reward. I don't think there's a blanket answer for everyone. Heck, I haven't reconciled this dilemma for myself lol |

Wish this group buy offered Nokian tires. If I could get a square 18x8 setup with Hakkapeliitta R2 as narrow as possible (225/45R18 would be nice), I'd be in.

Tier Package
What happens when tire deal opens? Will you be able to change tire size from your original "interest"?

I'm glad I stumbled onto this group buy before the window expired! I think I'm about the pull the trigger for my M2.
I live in Northern VA. Between the X-ICE and the Alpin tires, which do you recommend? If it is messy I will drive my other car. But I do want to use my M2 year round.

You can absolutely change your tire size when the deal opens. Nothing is set in stone during the feeler stage.

Re proper TPMS to order, for M2s produced after (11/01/16), ie some MY '17 and all MY '18, according to both my dealership parts mgr and realoem, the correct part number is 36106881890.
Some earlier model M2s used 36106856209 . According to the dates given on realoem, there appears to be some overlap in models produced after 11/01/16 and before 5/16/17. This gets tricky and is rife with error opportunities. Its not just a part number change; its a whole different construction. According to my parts mgr, the newer part number features an integrated valve; the earlier one requires a separate valve. It is also possible that they work on different frequencies, although I wasnt able to confirm this. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=36106881890 I have written Dylan at Apex requesting he provide the correct part number for these newer models. Maybe this is a distinction without a difference, so hopefully we can get some clarification from Apex. ****** EDIT**** I just heard from Apex and they are telling me the part number change is internal to BMW but functionally, they are the same part. So I guess we are good to go with the 36106856209 . ORDERED!

Tires
Am about to pledge for my tires. Am on the fence with width. I am going with 9" wheels. Was thinking of 255, now I am thinking 245 for Performance winters. Any thoughts?

I went for exactly this... 18x9ET31 square with 245/40R18 Michelin X Ice Xi3. Looking forward to using my M2 year round.

Matt / Apex, any chance of adding an 18x8 option to be used with 225/45 tires? No need for 8.5" or 9" width for snow setup...
I'd be partial to something with less spokes too, but realize it's probably too late for that. (Fewer / thicker spokes make it easier to clear out any snow/ice buildup, a "mesh" style wheel looks cool but they suck if you get snow frozen in them.)
