We've discussed it before in other threads, but if anyones primary
concern when deciding "to tune, or not to tune" is based on warranty
preservation, the best possible advice is not to tune.

As much as we'd love to have everyone as a potential customer, there
is a right way and a wrong way to properly set customers expectations.

Too bad all vendors don't exhibit such candor. Thank you for your honesty and sales philosophy.

Ok thanks for clarifying.

What is the purpose of this new feature?

Our ECUs can only be flashed a certain number of times before the ECU bricks. I believe it’s around 40 total flashes before this becomes an issue. The ECU flash counter bypass would avoid this problem.

This is the only exciting part about warranty expiring!

Stage 2

Here's my take...
I flashed my car last night, only drove it once since the flash.

I went right to stage 2 (6MT). This tune really transformed the car. Everything happens faster now. Throttle response is instant, spool up is instant, with fast shifting I can keep the car in boost now more easily, and the car pulls harder up top. Something else to note; I actually enjoy driving in comfort mode now

The ///M2 should've come from the factory this way, and it does feel like a factory BMW driving experience...just faster and better!

I still have a while before adaptations set in, but I am very happy with this tune so far!

Sounds awesome! Can’t wait to flash mine. I’m waiting on VF to send me Stage 1 and 2 maps. Was planning on running Stage 1 with my FabSpeed Downpipe until I get my CSF intercooler and VRSF charge pipes installed... but I may just go straight to Stage 2 based on your positive experience

No need for sage 1, LOL!

I'm in Mullica Hill, if you want to go for a ride I'd be happy to oblige.

That would be awesome. Would be sweet to see stock vs stage 2. PM me, I’m right outside of Mullica Hill.

I just ordered stage 2! I'll post updates and dyno when the weather warms up. I want to hit the dyno in the 70s that's when my baseline and other dyno runs were done.

Can’t wait to try my stage 2 tune. I sent in my stock files on 1/25 and then again on 1/26, and am still waiting for the stage 2 file. Kinda surprised how much of a hassle this has been for a OTS Tune. Have had to make nearly a dozen calls/emails, and still haven’t gotten any definitive answers on when my tune will be ready. I’m having my FabSpeed SportCat installed by TySpeed tomorrow, and was really looking forward to testing it out with the HEX tune... guess I’ll have to keep waiting.

Supporting mods?

Any fueling issues? Limp modes? Misfires? Codes thrown?

I'm interested to hear this answer. I know from prior turbo fiddling, colder spark plugs gapped tighter help with misfires. A more stout low pressure fuel pump, like the dinan offering might help.

I will be keeping my eye out for a more permanent solution, like an intake manifold spacer that can shoot fuel (meth or gas) directly into the runners. Of course there would be some kind of controller needed. I know the hardware exists, I'm just not sure that I like any of the controllers.

Gary at VF was able to take care of getting me the tune even though their shop is closed. Apparently there was a glitch in their system and my tune was marked as delivered. I now have the stage 2 map and it’s awesome

We had a record software sales month in January, which is typically not
our peak season. (pretty cool!) It wasn’t a flawless month by any
means, but we’ve ramped up and made some logistical improvements
and have few new goals and features we’re working in to beat that
again in February!

Is there anyway to get a HEX tune without the extra exhaust burble/overrun? With a catted downpipe and OEM catback the Stage 2 HEX tune has burble/overrun that’s a little extreme for my taste in both sport and sport plus mode.

I would be included to say the "aggressiveness" (being "a little extreme
for your taste
") is due to the addition of the downpipes.

Our calibration strategy for Stage ONE and Stage TWO is primarily based
on extending the duration and raising the speed limit cut-off. We are not
doing anything in the calibration that changes the aggressiveness.

For reference, the two videos below are utilizing the exact same strategy
for the throttle overrun (burble), and the only difference is the exhaust;

STOCK Exhaust

Turbo-Back Exhaust

I just got my cable in the mail and I got stumped on the very first step....LOL

I was using the instructions but the screens and options look nothing like the instructions.

It goes from reading my ECU to wanting to code my hardware with information. Keep in mind I never even got to the "read coding data" part.

Here is where I stopped. Is this normal?

I just went through this today too, click next and you'll get the coding data option. the instructions aren't fully inclusive I have found. I'm still waiting for my stage 2 tune to be sent back to me, sent in my stock files this morning. hope I get it today. don't see why there should be a delay but I guess it is what it is.

Yes.
All it is doing is telling you that you will be matching ("coding") the
HEX Tuning Device to your vehicles VIN.

Click "NEXT" and you will move right past that step.

For reference, you can refer to the most recent Instructions below:

By aggressiveness I’m not referring to the sheer loudness, but rather the overrun being present at higher speeds, as well as how long the overrun lasts. Is there any way to get the stage 2 tune without the extended overrun? The overrun was definitely louder after I installed the downpipe, but it wasn’t happening as frequently or lasting this long.

I believe I saw you Stock/Tuned files e-mailed to you about 20 min. ago!

For reference, the instructions state that you can expect the turn-around
time to be approx. 24 hours.

We received your request at 11:00am (PST) this morning, and fulfilled the
request within 5 hours! (Pretty good time-frame considering our current
volume of requests from around the world.
) That being said, we do hope
to be able to even reduce that time line as we add more resources by
Spring time when we roll into peak season.

Thanks again for the order, and we can't wait to read your review after
you get a chance to rack up some miles!
