As much as I would like the M2 to weigh less I have to believe Car and Driver's figure, particularly following BMWs incorrect data as to the open/closed deck issue. Pretty sloppy editing on its part.

I think the problem is each of those components (disregarding seats, ect) can be purchased and installed on an M2 already. Taking the limited production into account doesn't make the car worth it imo. I feel like this is an attempt for BMW to justify a higher price to the CS, because its "only" $10-20K more than the performance edition and has way more features. On top of that, buyers who suck the BMW teat, flock for the "limited" performance M2 and pay way over msrp help justify higher pricing. |

After looking at the specs, this looks like a strange configuration to limit to 150. The weight savings just seems weird/negligible apart from the manual seats. Is the trade off of performance and the "creature comforts" really that big? Single zone climate control vs dual? HiFi vs Harmon Kardon? Removal of smokers package? No heated seats? There's probably like 2 people on the entire bimmerpost forum that can feel the difference in weight and drive it well enough to take advantage of it. But hey, if they like it more power to 'em.
You'd think they would want something more special to limit to 150 units, but I guess that's also coming in the CS later, where the weight reduction will come from special CF panels and whatnot, and not just taking out some tiny luxuries. I agree with the other posters though that some dealers will mark these up a ton because they're 1 of 150 and some sucker will spend $80k+ on it. |

The M performance exhaust alone is like a 4000 USD part if you had to add separately. I am not sure how much the coilover suspension would cost but if you added all the parts individually, I am sure the total would be quite a bit higher than the premium over the regular M2. BMW seems to have added more parts as standard and offered a discount on them. Some of these parts (suspension) might have been developed for the M2 CS and just offered here a little earlier through the performance edition, could have happened. If the car is really 60 - 70 lbs lighter, this is a very good deal and the car should be perceptibly quicker than the M2 even without the additional power. We'll have better idea about how much the M2 CS will cost after the M4 CS is revealed. I still think it won't go over the 70 K mark. It's a waiting game I guess. |

I was thinking about grabbing a m2 CS for less than 70k after the initial release, but now with this silly package listed @ 62k , it's pretty much the last nail in the coffin, to eliminate any possibility that the CS version going to be anything less than 75k(that is without the markups).

I think everyone's getting to worked up. It's only coming to the U.S. I don't think this is anything special and it's only BMWUSA playing a cash grab. They did something similar with the 135is by installing all the performance options at the port. I assume this will be same, even limited just like the 135is.

I can see why people compare it to the e36 M3 LTW. But the e36 M3 LTW had less sound deadening material, cloth seats, no air-conditioning, no radio, no trunk lining, a massive wing and a special fabric floor carpet. The E36 M3 Lightweight was around 200 lbs lighter than the standard E36 M3.
This M2 PF edition has nothing similar with that e36 M3 LTW and there is really nothing special about this M2 (besides marketing and a num,her on it). Don't know how much the weight difference will be, but it will be a marginal difference with a normal M2 and nothing noticeable. This is only because they left out some options (like electric seats, HK audio, etc). There is nothing special or specifique on this M2...just some options left out and some other M performance goodies that are fitted (that you could order anyway, in Europe of course). Personally I have zero excitement about this M2 PF edition and I like my so called lightweight spec (manual seats, manual gearbox) more then this so called "limited edition- marketing" model... They did not even bother to put in the lighter BMW Performance bucket seats with alcantara to make it at least a little more special then a normal M2. Just my 2 cents

Sounds like more M marketing for the performance bits and pieces.
Buuut where are the important ones like steering wheel and real CF weight savings pieces? Illuminated door sills only add like 4HP..I mean seriously. |

This could end up being the unit to get if the CS differs by only the S55. I was under the impression that the suspension was quite expensive. 3k? Simplicity is worth something. It will be an option that only 150 factory cars will get, also worth something.
Could this be the grandsport vs z06? |
