So I'm down to 3 cars. 2 new and 1 used.

I'll only consider MG, which really limits my choices. It looks aggressive, it never looks dirty, and looks great w the black bits and carbon trim. I wish I could do AW or Blue, as there are many more cars to pick from and I would save some $$$. BUT if there's one thing I've learned, get what you want because it will be expensive to sell if you dont

The following are all MG manual Exec pack

Car 1
$53k, 2017, 4500 miles. Local. Auction car.

Car 2
$56,845, 2018 new, sunroof, exec, black grilles, car play. 3 hour drive each way..

Car 3
$55,345, 2018 new, exec, black grilles / sides, car play, wheel locks. 10 hours drive each way.

I get the $2k fleet discount which expires in Jan. So its created a bit of urgency to pull the trigger.

My thoughts
- #1 is very tempting as its local, but the dealer is buying it from an auction for me then shipping it.

- I really like having a sunroof. Here in Nashville I find myself using it frequently. My wife hates them. BUT, I like the clean lines of a slicktop plus it adds a bunch of weight, etc. And it costs another $1k.

- I really dont want to drive 10 hours each way lol. But just suck it up, right?

- I will put 700 miles on the car driving it home on a 10 hour trip. Should take that into account.

I'm leaning towards car #2. Easy day trip, 500 less miles put on the car, I would prefer to have a sunroof vs. not.

Any thoughts or comments? As much as I like to save $$$ I'm leaning towards new. I wont "sweat" a couple extra thousand, b/c I will get it back when I sell since an 18 will always sell for more than a 17 - and I do get the LCI goodies. And who knows who did what to an auction car.

Are the amount of miles you put on the car really an issue? Are you planning to make it a garage queen or drive it?
I bought mine to drive & enjoy; not at all concerned with keeping it low miles so it's nice for the next owner.

I'd say car #2. I use my moonroof just about every day. Although car #3 gives you 10 hours of driving it home!

You like the one 10 hours a way best? Then suck it up, or have them ship it with the 1k in savings. Also it adds 500 miles to the car? Who fucking cares? You think the next buyer is going be between your car and another with the deciding factor being 500 or less miles between the cars? Your warranty is up 500 miles sooner? You're going to get some sick trade in value being 500 miles lighter? Come on! I don't even know why people own cars when they are considering the cost of doing 500 miles? Fucking blows my mind. I mean you got get 1200 miles on it to do the break in service anyway!

You prefer the sunroof? Then get that instead and try to get them to come down on price since you have the third option with black sides and wheel locks and it's cheaper.

I mean get the one you want and don't worry about such a small amount of miles.

Always good to hear others opinions.

Car #2 dealer squeezed another $2k for my trade, which makes theirs a no brainer.

However they need to get the car from another dealer via trade, which they will do Monday.

Fingers crossed.

I think either way, I'm going with one of the 18's. I'll go with the used on as my backup plan if the new ones dont work out.

Don't buy any of them. Don't buy things "under the gun." The savings you are talking about for acting quickly are peanuts. Figure out what it is that you want and then make a considered decision, divorced from some sort of artificial deadline that you are imposing on yourself. Worst case scenario is that it will cost you a thousand or two more, to wait. Plus, buying incentives are frequently offered again, they didn't design them for you personally, they were designed to boost sales.

More likely is that used M2 prices will rationalize under the new-normal of their being enough new M2s on the market that people are no longer motivated to pay too much for a used one because they can't get or will have to wait too long to get a new one.

Alternatively, there will be excess stock of the current/soon-to-be old version of the car with the N55 engine, with some people holding out for the newer version with the S55.

You don't sound to me like someone who really knows what he wants, and in my experience, that is even more likely to result in a purchase you will regret and will then resell. Pause, take a deep breath, consider your options, and then go forward looking for whatever it is that you really want.

get #2 if you want the sunroof, #3 if you don't. that fleet deal is sweet, and they took it away last year - surprised to see it back. they might take it away again.

Well, the dealer called me "oh, the car isnt built yet, so you can put a deposit down". LOL.

Long story short: I bought a 17 MG manual 4k miles, came w MPE. Got it for $51k and a great trade in price. Get the car Thurs this week. Got sick of shopping, etc and just pulled the trigger. I think its a pretty nice deal.

I couldnt find an 18 on the lot in MG manual. And the dealers far away couldnt give me a firm quote on my trade. Other dealers had allocations, but it was 2 months out. I was concerned my trade value would be an issue.

I've got a 2018 with 1500 miles - I paid for the extra service plan so that's transferable (including brake service) I'm likely going to offer it for sale, Loaded LBB DCT in SoCal. jbernier2000@yahoo.com

Looks like a nice pickup. I know a lot of guys looking for MG are starting to scramble. I'm sure more will arrive in the next round of orders , but specifying your build won't be an option, it will be a matter of trying to find a car that's on a lot.

Sounds like a really good deal. My order is almost 62K and the only difference from yours is the DCT and Apple carplay..

Thanks for asking.

Actually the car was delivered to a local dealer for me. Super convenient.

Very happy with the M2. Snappy fun little M. Not as serious as my 911 GTS, but that's not the point of the M2.

The car wasnt detailed like they said it would be. So I spent a couple hours doing a deep interior detail. A couple little scuff here and there, but nothing major. I'm happy.

I LOVE MG. I like understated cars that are very aggressive. The flared fenders are bad ass.

Been playing around w ASD coding, exhaust modes, etc. I plan to post a new thread with pics, etc.

There are some weird, fishy, numbers in the linked page. For example, it says that Idaho has a "Maximum Tax Rate" of 8.5%, but our sales tax rate is 6%. Some municipalities do have local option taxes (like where I live) however those are in recreational areas and are for promoting tourism, and generally limited to taxes on lodging, restaurants, and retail (non-motor vehicle) sales. There are of course other fees that one pays when one registers a car, but those are generally the same as you would pay to renew a car registration, like road and bridge tax, etc.

Also, Montana is listed as a state that doesn't give credit for trade-ins, but the last time I checked Montana doesn't have a sales tax at all, and no tax on vehicle purchases. I don't see how a trade in credit would get you anything.
