CarPlay wired from wireless?
Tried searching for this but too many results and not what I was looking for. Is there a way to run CarPlay via USB and not wireless? I suspect the audio quality would be better. This is a 2019 M2C.

not with the built-in CarPlay function, no.
If you switched to an aftermarket MMI box or Android-based head unit, then yes. |

Audio quality is absolutely the same with the way wireless CP was implemented. The only gain from wired connection is better latency for switching songs or watching youtube videos(?), if there's an option for wired.

Really good to know, thanks. Didn't want to leave any improvement on the table.

There is no wired CarPlay in BMW. Only wireless which work really awesome.

Hello-
I was wondering if there has been any change in being able to use Wired CarPlay as opposed to only wireless CarPlay? It would seem like this should be possible given plugging a phone into the USB allows you to access songs on the phone...so clearly the systems can talk to each other in a wired format. Can you do some coding to allow this? My other cars allow both wireless and wired access to CarPlay... Thanks for any help! Allan |

Also the guy above said its not possible and they are one of the top BMW coders, so I would assume that they are correct and wired is not possible on BMWs.

I would say wireless CarPlay is the main benefit

I want to be able to move seamlessly back and forth from CarPlay to native BMW, but there seems to be no smooth way to do that. When I switch back out of CarPlay, my phone does not automatically go back to native BMW Bluetooth without me re-enabling it. Is this a bug, or a "feature"? Late production car, 3/21.

The wired versions of carplay / android auto don't have any lag, like when you hit skip there isn't that delay. If both options were present I'd use the wired carplay on longer trips.

Just got an iPhone 13 mini. It's in an Apple leather case. It actually seems to charge better than my last 2 phones. Left Tucson at 63% the other day, got home 90 minutes later at 80%. Still slow as molasses, but prior experience would have been almost no movement at all.
Also tried activating CarPlay on it, everything is enabled both on the phone and in iDrive, and... nothing happens. No CarPlay icon on iDrive screen, acts like it's not enabled. Weird. I don't really care, I'm using the native iDrive stuff and quite happy to stay that way.

Android user here.
I bought an older iPhone with the intention of connecting it to wireless carplay but then I realized I couldn't connect the hotspot from my android phone and wireless carplay at the same time. I tried every way possible to get the wired connection to work but no dice. Then I thought I could get cheap data service on the iphone but then I would have to switch back and forth for phone calls so nope. So it looks like MMI box or switch to iphone are my only options.
