Stock Clutch Stop

Does anyone know the BMW part number for the stock clutch stop? was going to switch back because of reports of transmission syncro problems for those with the BMS clutch stop. dont know how accurate it is..

Instead of buying a new stock clutch stop, why not just remove all the extra washers on your BMS stop?

The OEM part is 73 cents. Might as well just get it and not have any traces of a modification there.

I installed the BMS clutch stop right when I got the car. Shifting has always been a bit notchy but I figured it was just how the car was. Over the past few weeks it just seems really notchy and difficult from 1-2, occasional 2-3 and 3-4. I took the clutch stop down from 2 to 1 and it's so much smoother. I guess every car is different but I'd rather not risk damaging the synchros.

Probably, a very tiny 1/16 inch difference from stock. However Andrew makes a good point below. Just thought you could save yourself some hassle by using what you have.

I've never had this issue despite having all the washers in... maybe each car has different tolerances?

You guys are smarter than I am...living in warm climates. I live in MN and the additional washers were more noticeable/troublesome when the temp was below zero (really bad at -10, like almost couldn't shift into 2nd). I am down to one and, if anything, may go back to stock.

Should be identical. Cuts and molding technologies in car manufacturer is very advanced so that metal gears and clutches/ input output and counter shafts/ Metal Sleeves should not differ not in micrometers in their shape and cut. They should not bring any noticable difference for all drivers.

What could affect the feeling of shift can be climate and transmission fluid types which is not really related to having clutch stops or not..

Now I am little starting get paranoid ppl mentioning about possible wear by using the stop with full washers.. Maybe I will go back and remove some.. I guess

Yes it was easy, but the plastic "feathers" on the shaft seem like they wouldn't like too many times being pulled out and back in. The good thing is that gravity would hold it, too, but if it were not relatively tight, I'd get a new one.
