I'll let it go, and yes, facts are facts. Id rather discuss the cars anyway, but if people camp on with views which dont jibe with what's been said, I might feel obliged to intercede. No hard feelings.

To OP: just use the USB port near the cup holders. Opening and closing the armrest is too clunky anyway

I know it doesn't charge the phone fast, but it does provide a nice place to store your phone, while adding the benefit of some charging while traveling. It was a pretty big mistake by BMW IMO not to shave off those few mm. It's about the customer, not about what they think how it should be. Given how decent there customer service is compared to other brands, I'm surprised they didn't do this, though I've read the larger sedans have wireless charging mats now. My s6 edge fits just fine, charges fairly quickly. It is even in a case (otter box something or other). Two things...it can get rather warm if in the charge for extended periods and yes I do forget the phone in the car from time to time. Wish BMW would have put the charging pad in front of the cup holders, but that said...by having it closed inside the armrest, it does keep the phone out of people hands...reducing the chances of texting while driving. A beneficial "side-effect"...or perhaps intentionally done by BMW engineers??

It takes a little bit of patience but well worth it. At least to me.

The competition seems to have the charger in the front, just next to the cup holders
Maybe this can be retrofitted in the future

I looked at doing this one, but am a bit nervous about the temperature tha it will a;ll get up to and if it will eventually become risk - thinking: - Naked wired charger - under some plasic in an unvented space; - near the gear selector and above the drive shaft where things get warm... http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...5#post21762905 Keen to get a wireless charger in there, but nervous about the heat. Does the factory one give off much heat? Last edited by M Bandit; 05-21-2018 at 03:31 PM.. Reason: Added link to other wireless charger install |

All interior videos I've seen and even pictures do not suggest this.
I hope it's true, but I can't see them changing it from the center console location for such a low production car. I have yet to see any info on updates to the 2019 2 series as a whole besides the M2 comp. I hope they do it though |

I hated the wireless charger and tore it out and replaced it with the OEM rubber tray. Now I have much more room to store stuff in the arm rest and just charge my phone via USB.

I have used the wireless charging and found it not working too well. Firstly, it charges very slowly. Secondly, it overheats to the point my iphone beeps of high temperature. BTW, using iphone 8. Me thinks there is a design flaw with the wireless charging system? Any others experience this?

no issues with heat, and yes wireless charging can be slower than wired, depending onto wired adapter.
