For some reason, I dont really hear the increase in cabin noise you guys are experiencing once ASD is removed.. The fact that I listen to the radio now at about half the volume, maybe a tad more, than I did when ASD was alive tells me that there is a significant net loss of noise in the cabin with ASD delete. That's not to say there is no road noise; only that there less of it than there was ASD noise.

I had a definite decrease in cabin noise once ASD was removed.

boostm3 I agree. It’s because the other fake noise and white noise are absent that the tire noise is more prominent and next on the list.

I know you’re not saying this but in case others might think that I expect or want a luxury car quiet ride, I don’t, I’d just prefer the engine & exhaust were the primary sounds I hear. Some tire & mechanical noises from the trans and diff are expected in a sports car and can add to the experience.

After 2 years and 25k miles I got the harness and just did the install last night... SO MUCH QUIETER on the interstate. Sure the tire noise is more prominent but that means I can actually hear what the tires are doing. Still hear the exhaust just fine when accelerating, but less pops and burble sounds make it to the cabin while decelerating with the windows up. And now I can talk to people on the interstate without increasing the call volume to 80% too!

I think Im experiencing the snaps, crackles, and pops in the cabin More now that ASD isnt drowning them out.. I could be mistaken but I think these are solely engine/exhaust generated, and were not a feature of ASD.

Try ASD off via cell phone Bluetooth connection

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I just found out that ASD will pretty much turn off when you connect phone via Bluetooth to play music. It either turns super low or it's completely off but I loved not having the ASD and think I will definitely code it off now. This is a good way for anyone to try and see how they would like the ASD off.

What is their new harness design? It says disassembly no longer required?

An easy to test drive the ASD delete is to pull the stereo s in the glove box, I believe. The # is likely in this thread somewhere. That’s what I did.

I also noticed the sound quality/volume wasn't as good playing music through Bluetooth as through satellite or usb connection. Anyone else notice this?

I don't know about satellite but sound is definitely better playing flac files via USB vs over Bluetooth.

What are the differences between using the Harness Method and switching off ASD using the Bimmercode App?

One is a software approach, and the other is hardware. Which is better depends on which approach you favor. Pricewise, they're pretty similar. Effort wise, well, the harness takes about 15 minutes to implement; the software Can take that long depending on how good you are with software.

To me, the biggest difference pertains to potential issues with the implementation. Ive never heard any harness user of the current harness iteration have any issues whatsoever. On the other hand, while many have had good success with coding, these pages are littered with quirks, version mismatch, side effects, and dealer recalcitrance as a result. For coding, the purest, but also the one with a fairly steep learning curve is E-Sys.. The other method using something called bimmercode, or Carly is easier implemented.

I chose the harness method even though I bought the bimmercode app and wifi dongle it works with for one main reason: there appear to be fewer potential issues using this method.

I used the Bimmercode app with zero issues. The fact that it can do many other things makes it a no brainer for me.

I'm trying to buy the harness from TechnicPNP but it seems to be out of stock and they did not respond to my email. Has anyone bought this recently?

Which harness do you recommend?

+1 on this...

Bimmercode app + OBD dongle are less than $50 total and it does SO much more than just ASD. Coding ASD with Bimmercode app takes less than 5 minutes and is completely reversible.

I've coded four different F-series cars, including two of my own and have never had one issue with it.

The only recommendation I would suggest is to put your cell phone in Airplane mode while you're coding so no incoming calls or text messages can interrupt the coding process.

I installed the ASD bypass harness few days ago, I couldn't really notice the difference, my car has Akrapovic exhaust and BM3 OTS stage 1 .
