After a week with a M2

Picked up our M2 last week. We had tried to get one from the local dealer but they were not interested and price never came up. I was very fortunate that Momentum BMW of Houston stepped up and I could not have been happier with their service. I have been driving for 60 years , mostly BMW and Porsche so this was not my first rodeo. They were most helpful with the order process, kept me updated throughout the production and shipping cycles and provided a time.y and professional delivery. For a out of town customer I thought that would be the end, but I was wrong. First about an hour after leaving with our new car I received a call from the sales associate asking if I got safely back to the interstate and were there any questions I had after driving the car. They again followed up several days later and FedEx several nice gifts to my house. Nothing short of super service.

Now the car WOW and this from someone that instructs auto cross in a slightly modified Porsche Boxster Spyder and on the track in a very modified ' 83 911. Of note I have over the years had GT 3's and E36 M 3's . The M 2 is well designed and finished, has ample power( remember I'm barely into the break in ) and corners like on rails . It will get a track check out ( just for education Hi) after the break in. All in all I could not be happier and am amazed for everything about the M2 especially at its price point. A clear winner as is Momentum BMW

Sorry for the length

Funny how these things work. I live in Houston and couldn't get a car here so had to order from a few hundred miles away.

He was driving manuals before 90% of us were twinkles in our parents eyes.

Congrats OP! Manual or DCT (not sure why this is always a thing). Can’t wait to get mine and your post just adds to my anticipation.

Agree, M2 is a good overall package. I've driven my GT3 a lot less since I got my M2.

OP is from Texas...so likely, that with 60 years driving experience, he is actually closer to 66/67

I'm surprised he made this post without some help from his kids lol . As far as driving goes, you know he will have lots of fun with this car!

1) Nothing wrong with sharing a good experience for a car that's been such a pain in the ass to obtain for some.

2) get that Reddit BS out of here.

Just wait until the BMW surveys start to annoy you (my first new car bought at a dealer - it was fun for awhile)

Congrats!

This is the stick OP used to drive...an F4 Phantom. Tip my hat to f4_pilot and enjoy your m2!

I'm glad their new car sales are good - I had a terrible experience with their used car sales

Enjoy the ride! I've had mine for a couple of days, and... oh my god it's fun to drive (coming from nowhere near as distinguished a car history as you OP!)

To answer some of the questions. That is 60 years of licensed driving. Yes I got the double clutch as my wife wants to drive it.

the picture is some other toys, I have no intention of growing up and the 911 is not stock and has a third peddle

What generation/year 911 is that? It's beautiful btw.
I've had one eye on an air cooled 930 turbo, but the current price bubble seems a bit crazy to me, given the rise over the last 7-8 years.

Congrats on the new M!

Can you please tell us some more about experience with the GT3? What year was it?

I'm looking to add a 997.1 TT next because I feel like I have to experience Porsche ownership at least once, but the M2 is still in the running.

The 911 is a 1983 Euro spec SC and was brought into the states gray market by a previous owner. It would take all day to list all the mods but to name a few. The car was stripped and repainted a year or so ago with all glass, doors and fenders removed. the stripes are painted and under the clear coat. All new rubber was installed. It has a lightweight RS interior and a welded roll bar. The car weighs 2425 lbs with me in it and full fluids. The engine output on a very stingy dyno is 215 at the rear wheels. The suspension is all custom tuned for the car an the list goes on and on. It is a blast to drive on the track and turns heads where ever it goes.
