Page 63 in C&D's April edition.
They predict S55 twin turbo with valve tronic good for 400 Hp and 3300 Lbs curb weight.

Pretty much a detuned version of the M4's S55 is what they are describing.

Well the rumor milk keep churning I guess!! In the last week, the whistle was blown on the 4 cylinder. We now have Scott backtracking and confirming that the 4 cylinder will not power the M2 but that it's still being considered for a 2er Tii which would slot below the M2 in the lineup.

We also saw the printouts suggesting a higher tune 40i N55 as the signed off engine.

Now we have car and driver still hinting to a detuned S55 which is what all of us actually wanted all along...

One thing is confirmed now: inline 6 cylinder

Keep the rumor mill going!!

Christ that's an amazing looking car. I can't wait! I hope it IS the detuned S55.. and I hope even more that it's electronically detuned and not hardware. Quick flash and BAM! Eat my rubber red liver lips!

Well done and very informative! My ONLY knock against the M2 is the price point of just under $60K. Once you option it out, it will surely be closer to $67K, and that's out of most people's range of affordability (at least for me anyways). Now if you wait longer than 2 years, and go for the previous year's model, you might get it for mid $50s, but again too much for my blood. M235i will have to do.

BTW, what variety of Audi is that in the lower corner of the page? Some sort of A3/S3 coupe?

WOW that rendering in C&D looks like it is on the right track!

it seems likely that I AM IN. My lease on the 135is is up in September of 2015------so i am eagerly anticipating news on this M2 idea. Hopefully by this summer we can have SOME solid details or at least a timeline of development. I really hope this comes earlier than 2017. As mentioned in another thread, hopefully as a 2016 model introduced at the end of 2015. Fingers crossed.

I am very excited about this! So glad it is going to have the N55.

i don't think it will have a base close to $60k. The M3 starts at $62k so there has to be plenty of room between the 2 models. I'm thinking $53k base (M235i has a $44k base, right).

The 1M MSRP was $2865 more than the 135is. I believe that the M2 will start somewhere near the same amount above the M235 plus an additional bump for extra development costs. Quite possible for the M2 to base at approximately $50K. A longer list of options will help BMW make a greater margin.

I agree, about $50,000 base for the US and closer to $60,000 for the base model in Canada. That pricing is OK with me,I am just happy that it looks like the M2 will definitely have the I6 engine.

I'm excited about some news/speculation coming out, and the prospect of an I6 sounds great (even though a 4 would have been just fine by me). But man, that render looks pretty god awful. Hope that came from some intern at C&D and not from anyone at BMW. lol

That sounds like a price differential from the bad old days. As my comparative analysis in another thread noted, content-matched there is about a 7% difference in the m235i prices across the border. So $50k +7% = $53.5k CAD.

I won't get too excited about some "speculation" in C&D. It just might be wishful thinking at this time.

I4 or I6 I'm sold. Either way I'm placing an order for this as soon as it is possible. BMW is gonna make a beast and all of us should stop worrying about this or that. M2 is going to be a monster! Competition from other manufacturers are bringing the best out of em.

Hopefully your math is correct, but I still think it will be more than that in CDN dollars.

I would die and go to heaven if a detuned s55 w a dct showed up and full M suspension/drivetrain.

However, if this is a limited production model like the 1M, I will go crazy!!

Well up here they need to be competitive at least with the base C7 - 455 hp for $52,745 in a car that weighs about the same as the M2 will. When the 1M hit, the Vette was nowhere near competitive - how times have changed.

The I4 rumor is so stupid. I never believed it from day 1. That render is ok but I doubt it will look like that. It will just be a more aggressive M235i. Which i think will look miles better than that render anyway.

I'm not sure you know the meaning of "confirmed".

Lol, you got me there !!
While nothing is confirmed, I think we can safely assume it will be a 6 cylinder now (don't know which one) because the only source that has been saying I4 has now retracted and quietly changed his tone to now speak of a potential 2er Tii with the 4 cylinder instead of the M2...

Personally, I never believed a word of it, I think the whole 4 cylinder rumor was a sleazy ploy to push customers who want the 6 cylinder into an M235 or an M4 now and then make them upgrade to the M2 when it comes out.. Remember the comments about the M4 needing space !!

My guess is that there never was even a drawing of an S20 4 cylinder such as the one we were led to believe would power the M2 and the X1M
