I agree. The initial production info leak may have been from an official document but because of its age, and the fact that there have already been updates posted makes me believe it's no longer 100% accurate.

I have and liked it. It'd be my choice.

Then again, I've never had an issue with the MT in the E92 M3 either. Hell, I'll even go as far as saying that I prefer it to the E36 M3 trans.

A new DCT unit for the M2 would be expensive to R&D, since this is the least expensive M car. The M5 unit would be too heavy, I think so 6MT and 8ZF will be offered. No DCT. Just sayin.

Why not re-use the DCT from the 135is?

That's a thought. Then there is that something to differentiate the M4 to M2 and it could include the tranny. I really think an M car should have a DCT if there is an auto option.

I disagree. There was a DCT available for the 335is and not other 3 series. Furthermore, we know the DCT from the one series (same unit as 335is?) can be paired to this engine. I understand your reasoning, but I think that the DCT R&D would not be overwhelmingly expensive.

I haven't followed the non M Bimmers for years now. Great info., btw! Now DCT seems much more logical. I hope they do it.

Yeah, pretty sure they used the same unit on the 135is and the 335is. Same engine and tune, probably same tranny. It should fit the M2 nicely, unless for some reason it isn't up to the torque levels the M2 will likely produce.

Then again, there are folks making 400 TQ on 135/335 platforms, so it should be good.

I'm pretty sure they are the same unit as well. However, the engine in the 335is was the tuned N54 they put in the 1M, while the 135is was a tuned N55 - similar to the M235i. But if anything, this shows the DCT unit can handle the over boost power of the 335is so I would assume it would applicable to the M2 platform.

You're going to have a choice. It's not going to be a one tranny car.

I just hope it doesn't force us to auto-rev match. Not something i'm interested in unless it can be turned off.

Car and Driver is claiming manual only now also.

I don't get it, BMW will lose so many sales if they don't offer an automatic.

People are assuming it will cause them to bump up to the M3/M4. But that is assuming they won't leave for another brand.

That's assuming the M235i still exists, and that the consumer is willing to give up performance.

You don't know that, though. There's no way of knowing at this point. The comments made seemed to suggest that it's a strong possibility.

From the spy pictures/video, it seems that the driver isn't doing any shifting.

The M235i, will become a 235i next year.. with the options (DCT), or BMW M-Performance parts catalogue to make any 235i... essentially a M235i.

How can you miss the logic..?

C&D is only repeating what Auto Express has said. Everyone is referencing the same source since it came from an actual interview with the head of M division. They are only inferring based on "hints" that he dropped as he never directly stated any of this. Even though his "hints" would suggest manual only and some kind of showing at Detroit, its entirely possible he's misleading everyone for a reason.

It's certainly possible that only the US gets the DCT option, and we see a near production version at Detroit.

BMW will definitely offer a Manual and DCT tranny for the M2 IMO.
