You mean you're going to have to learn the dimensions of your own car? Shocking!
No I mean I don't want to scratch a 2000$ bumper.

The bumper is plastic. Plastic repairs are easily repaired by a repair shop.

Back up and re-approach if you aren't sure? Are you French? I see Canada.. perhaps French Canadian then... ?

Everybody welcome the racist. No, what I am is someone who doesn't want to worry about scratching things given that it's a 75k+ car in Canada and sensors are like 30 cents

so improving your driving skillz isn't a factor here..

is this a common issue for you? have you bashed your front bumper on other vehicles in the past?

and why are you concerned primarily about your OWN bumper and not the vehicle or object you might hit and the liability associated with that?

I love how people like you on this forum play this little game. No I don't have experience scratching bumpers. Yes I do want to protect my high priced investment. No I'm not opposed to change. Yes I like technology and embrace the future (or some would even consider it the past as my wife 428 MY14 has sensors on both sides). Go be a bully somewhere else. This forum doesn't welcome that.

for f sake, you do not need a parking sensor in the front, esp for an M car. use your eyes.
we don't need rear PDC/camera either but nice to have when spending $70K you twat. You can park in tighter spots with pdc

Damn, so much anger on the forum today, and about parking sensors (from many different ppl).

I'm not giving anyone grief about parking sensors - I can see how they might be useful for "defensive parking" at times. I think akkando said it best at the top of page 9. (That said, I'm not pissed about not having them either.) Not sure why so many folks are aggressively bashing others - maybe some ppl haven't been laid in a while or something?

I appreciate your response! Note my ID NAME and you'll see why I am amused by and also interested in your responses, so thanks for indulging a " racist forum bully " like myself.

I've literally spoken with two people that were involved in a car accident and BOTH of the drivers stated " I was backing up and my sensor went off and before I could hit the brake there was a crash. I * KNOW* the other person is at fault because my sensors work perfectly.

I nearly LOL when the second driver said the same exact thing almost to the word. In both situations I asked if they actually LOOKED BACK and WHEN they saw the other vehicle. Neither looked back and neither saw the other car.

PRO TIP: keep in mind that these sensors are driver aids and the primary (and really what should be considered the ONLY line of defense ) is an alert driver that doesn't take parking for granted and doesn't put their faith in sensors.

In the absolutely TRUE scenario above, both drivers were determined to be 50% at fault and based on the laws in that state each insurance company paid the other for 50% of the damages to the other vehicle. Both drivers had to pay their collision deductible and they both got 50 percent of their deductible back in the end after recoveries from the other insurer occurred.

Hopefully you'll tell your wife about that " big meanie " on the web tonight and you have a laugh about it and continue to be careful drivers ( regardless of vehicle options ) and both don't hit any cars in the future.

Why do these threads always become about something like a parking sensor or moonroof or red colored ignition button or etc. etc.

I think most would agree that parking sensors on a car such as this would fall under the "Insignificant" category. Also, the photo that was leaked does not necessarily need to have all the options that would eventually be available with the car.

Basically, there is no reason to argue about it, at least not yet.

Post Edit: Piggybacking on M3 Adjuster's previous post, my former flatmate basically reversed right into a civic in a parking lot 2 years ago because of his reliance on the rear view camera. The idiot still uses only the camera without even looking out the window after having such an incident.

Similarly, I went to Mexico accidentally when the same flatmate insisted on using google maps instead of a big green sign saying last exit before Mexico.

Technology is great. But when it screws up, you get screwed.

I tend to believe the opposite of whatever you know who says.

Is this supposed to be a limited run car?? Or replace the base M2?

I can’t keep up with all the rumors.

It’s limited by production slot availability and its only a 2 years run. So yes it’s a limited run car that replaces the M2. 😜

Dude I can't even keep up with the NAME.

To the best of my knowledge, there is an updated M2 coming this summer. Let's call it M2.1. It is rumored to have an S55 motor and a light silver color in place of MG and will replace the current model. Expect News in April.

There is also another item that's rumored to be coming and let's call it M2.2 I like to call it *further progress*. Not much is known although are lots of bread crumbs that I can't be bothered to try to piece together into a loaf.

All I know is that whatever is coming , I have no interest if it's DCT only. I might as well buy an X3M if I'm gonna have to get a $75k vehicle where I can't select the gears manually. I would rather buy a new track car though.

Interesting to see how many handicaps there are here who can't park a car without sensors.

Logically, there's no point in waiting other than for resale value implications, if one believes the Competition will hold value better, or maybe the addition of some useful features. For us this will be a fun weekend car only, we're coming from a jalopy Mazda3 so the N55 engine will already provide enough horsepower shock value, we didn't like the seats in the M3/M4 at all (beautiful but uncomfortable), and we couldn't care less about the shape of the side mirrors. In other words, I totally get how the Competition update turns the current M2 into the "dream car" for many BMW enthusiasts, but we probably don't quite fall into that category.

But emotionally, who doesn't want the newest, latest, greatest, fastest, meanest? I'm like anyone else, and I don't want to have 2nd thoughts.

Actually, just thought of probably the most important concern for us. If the S55 suffers less heat soak, and transmits less heat into the cabin (something that has come up in relation to the current model) than the N55, that's a biggie here in Phoenix where the AC already has to fight ambient temps over 110F 2-3 months per year. So I guess you can add that to the "logic" side of the ledger. I've been meaning to poll the local Phoenix M2 owners about this for an update to previous discussions about cabin heat...

EDIT: FYI we are on a list for the Competition, just as a Plan B since we've had so much trouble with our current dealer that we were proactive and created a backup plan in case the '18 LCI didn't happen.
I hear you man.

I’m in CO so its more the altitude that’s the issue, but nothing an FMIC upgrade won’t fix.

But yeah overall I feel the same way - that temptation to have the latest and greatest is there, but it’s emotion (and FOMO) over logic.

Logic tells me waiting 6+ months only to pay more to get into the car just = stress and even more waiting.. I’m ready to get off bimmerpost and drive!

I just hope BMW don’t slap us in the face with an MSRP that’s not at least 5k+ over the 18 LCI.. that’s the only way I see me having any regrets.

At the end of the day there are a lot of reasons why I’m stoked to be getting into an 18 LCI.. love the N55 exhaust, love MG colour (which reportedly is being phased out) and that 53k pricepoint is just so good. It’s really the only reason I can afford this car, instead of buying another WRX.

Good luck with your decision (driving through Europe in a new M2, how good!).

Part of improving is making mistakes, and bashing a bumper into things isn't the kind of mistake people want to make, and for what? Slightly better parking skills? There are more worth while things to improve than being able to park an inch away from a wall without ever making a mistake. I mean we're not adding a 100 pounds in sensors or talking about a car that is only going to live at the garage and track and won't actually be parked near others.
