Thank you both for answering. However, I'd have to go with the impression from a current M2 owner, than an assumption based on a 2008 Volkswagen. If the point is that DCT has to deselect one and go with another, which will take time--I agree. However, VW's software was such a POS and it seems BMW, much like Porsche, has a way better mechanism for doing so.
Also, from watching this video today, I would say the "immediate" is a fair word choice. Cheers. |

Hey, believe what you want to believe. My point is just that you can't defeat physics, as much as the Datsun GT-R would have us think otherwise.
There will be situations and ways that you can experience an unexpected delay with any dual-clutch gearbox. Maybe it's more common on the VAG system due to bad programming or not enough sensors, I don't know... but they've also been doing dual-clutch boxes for longer than anybody else, so *shrug*. If you always want to be in 100% full control of the car yourself, you want a manual.

Having owned DSG, DCT and PDK. I'm going to say DSG (even first gen) is closer to PDK than DCT. But yes, they all will have occassions when they cannot predict what you are going to do. Some more than others with PDK being the best of the 3. These problems usually pop up when the driver is doing something out of the ordinary... Under normal driving or on the track, this rarely happens.

But still just an automatic in the end. Not sure why dct fanatics aren't pining for a ZF unit since they are truly better in most driving conditions.

The DCT in my car is rough when in S+ and high revs. There is a definite delay between disengage and reengage.
When it reengages it is quite abrupt, reminiscent of early gen SMG's. I have not been able to determine if this is normal or not. |

8AT is great I had it in my ex 535i F10. But DCT is another world, so fast, it's a strange thing to say overhere but I won't go back to 6MT in a modern performance car for the sake of it. 1M was great, E46 M3, E90 M3 as well, great MTs but for me it's time to move on. I attend trackdays and driftdays and DCT is fun.
IRL I never ever had the buyers remorse I thought I would have at some point, I always use the paddles or the stick, it's 99/100 in Sport+ or all things are OFF in my case. I love DCT. The DCT brings more performance etc, it's working WITH the whole driving experience of a performance car the M2 is, NOT against it..... You can look at this picture both ways, I know that, but sometimes I'm getting a bit tired of how 'good' 6MT is vs DCT Cheers Robin |

For some reason I notice the delay more in Sport+ more than Sport (on the highway). I wonder if the computer is wrong more often in Sport+ thinking I want to down shift when I want to up shift.
Edit: Just messed around a bit more between sport+ and sport and to me still feels like the shifts are usually faster in Sport. The shifts in Sport are really smooth as well. In Sport+ you get more of a clunk when it changes gear. Last edited by akkando; 04-26-2017 at 01:25 AM.. |
