The 228 with a tune and some mild upgrades would definitely be a fun track car.

That's true, but in the US you can opt for a manual, moonroof-delete M235i that will save you some weight (at least 50lbs). By the same token, you could also get a 1M almost similarly equipped as an M235i. Add to the 1M the premium package (8-way power seats, auto-dimming mirrors, ambience lighting, bluetooth/ipod interface, etc), the convenience package (Navigation, iDrive, parking sensors, keyless entry/ignition, etc), HK sound system (with additional speakers and subwoofers), heated seats, etc, and that car won't be a lightweight either. That's the point dmboone25 was trying to make about comparing the weights of similarly equipped cars.

4cyl, <200hp, <2500lbs with driver. Totally eat up high HP cars on high HP track.
It's all in the power to weight and balance on the track. Period. T |

Fan-F***ing-Tastic! This is exactly what the M2 should be shooting for. A pic of the E30 M3 ought to be hanging in the M studio as motivation to the M2 designers (and I think it is). The current 2er is basically the exact same size in length and height, but just 4 inches wider than an E30. The question is whether the N55 variant is worth the weight over the N20. Are the performance components inherited off the M3/4 going to be worth the weight or will they be torn out of a new M2 for others? I don't think we will ever get back to E30 weight on the street because of newer govt regulation over the past 25 years, but I agree this should be the target.

An Ariel Atom or Lotus Elise would give most high HP cars a run for the money. I've been lapped by a full race prepped Mini Cooper S, stripped / heavily boosted / slick tires. It wasn't the one in the photo below, but you get the picture. I think it has more than 200HP, at least I want to believe it does.

My high hp track would be at autoclub speedway where if you do a 2 min in a lower horsepower car it is amazing and outstanding. whereas higher hp cars are doing 1:40-1:50.

i weighed mine yesterday night. 3357 lbs. with half tank of gas. I have a 6 sp. Manual Seats. M perf. Coilovers
Without gas it should be close to 3315 lbs. Some sources were stating that then m2 weighs 3415. I guess thats with a full tank and some luggage???
