So is it a silver trim or a gloss black trim?

Are you saying he swapped his vents from a different car completely? Thanks!

All M2's have the silver trim. The black trim is from pre-LCI F21.

You just need to buy this, plug it in, and pair. I tried a few different ones before settling on this one works the best and not expensive.

Cool, thanks!

I found the FourStroke app for free and added the $3.99 upgrade plus $20 Amazon OBD2 scanner (Veepeak wi-fi) and bam :

Sorry for the bad pic, but it's a screen shot of my iPad that I had to spin and crop to load. The app can do oil and coolant temp plus many others. I found it's hard to find an app that does both.

One thing you may want to do is put 4-5 coats of flat black spray paint on it. Mask off the actual plug but paint the housing. You'll see what I mean once you plug it in but without the paint your footwell will have disco lights at night.

Why not use painters tape or duct tape instead of painting?

Thanks. On your iDrive home screen, the background is blue (like the lights flashing down), mine are orange. Do you know how to change that?

Yeah it's iDrive 5.0 (2017), it looks exactly the same but the background is orange.

Maybe only I didn't know that, but pre LCI M2 have bult in Oil temp gauge in hidden diagnostic menu, like F22. Enabling it every time is little pain in the ass but maybe it will help someone on the track.

1) Press and hold trip reset button (bottom left of the cluster)
2) Press start/stop button while holding trip button
3) Release trip button when the hidden menu is available
4) Select Unlock section and enter the code (sum of last 5 digits of VIN)
5) Navigate to Temperature section
6) Select Oil temp and voila
