I used this one

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PLUG-PLAY...-/182179926286

It can be used as a reflective or stand up.

Agreed never even noticed it. Same as crooked seat thing.

Thinking about alternatives to remedy (to some extent) this nuisance.

Did anyone replace the left air vent in his M2 with a P3 gauge for the M2 (upper part P3 gauge and lower part air vent). Bigger digits than the OBC and operates independently from the OBC in the instrument cluster. One of the menus shows real speed (OBD2 data: oil temp, coolant temp, intake air temp, exhaust gas temp, throttle plate, speed, RPM with shift-light, battery voltage).

Alternative: AWRON gauge (though you lose one of the centre air vents)

If it bothers you, post one, it can't hurt. Maybe something will be done about it.

Agreed...lighting isn't great

I picked up my M2 this week and love it. However, I have a list of about 5 things I wanted to research in the manual and/or online to learn how setup correctly. Brighter lighting on the instrument cluster was one. As I found out through this thread following a google search, it can't be done. While not catastrophic at all, I hope that BMW can change this in a future software release.

Great car overall. But the human factors design dept was not showing their best work here.
That on/off cruise switch is a very american feature (I like the stalk too). My guess for the change is that their target market wanted it this way......

As a tall person with long legs, I hate cruise stalks. Or more accurately, I hate when it is placed low on the left side of the column where my clutch leg can hit it. Has happened in my TT, but generally only when the stalk is in the "off" position (which places it further down the column; "on" has you pull it toward the wheel which gets it up out of the way more).

OTOH, I'd much rather have additional audio control stuff on the left side of the wheel than putting the damn cruise control there. I almost never use cruise control but I use audio controls all the time, and it's annoying having it on the right side of the wheel since I usually have my right hand off the wheel in preparation for shifting. When I drive one-handed it's almost always my left hand on the wheel.

The more people that fill out the NHTSA form for the instrument panel lighting issue, the better even though BMW may never release a no/minimal cost 'fix'.

My M2 is a manual and I drive by feel, sound and surrounding traffic so the few times the tachometer/speedometer can't be seen really aren't a problem although it is disconcerting when looking down at them.

By filling out the NHTSA form, you'll receive a 'Thanks for Letting Us Know About Your Vehicle' email.

(excerpt) Will my vehicle be recalled?
When a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a car or item of motor vehicle equipment creates an unreasonable risk to safety or fails to meet minimum safety standards, the manufacturer is required to fix that car or equipment. That can be done by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund (for equipment) or, in rare cases, repurchasing the car.
If your vehicle is included in a recall, the manufacturer will contact you.

Sign up to receive recall email alerts from NHTSA if there's ever a recall involving your vehicle.

I rarely drive the M2, it is my wife's car. As a result I am not comfortable driving and shifting during spirited driving by the engine sound. I need to glace down to the tach now and then to see where I am. The instruments are so dim that this is impossible to do this.

I just filled out the DOT Vehicle Safety Complaint form that RAM_E90_F87 posted. It takes 2 minutes. If it bothers you, take the time to do it. If if doesn't, no worries.

To Whom Do We Complain at BMW?

Really annoying, particularly while wearing sunglasses. Sometimes I'm actually going slower than I want to!

I know it's not the right solution to the problem, but you can buy nonpolarized sunglasses or ones with the polarization rotated 90 degrees so they won't darken the instruments. The last ones I saw were RayBans.
