Dog seat
When I get my M2 in a few months time I'm going to have to transport my Boxer to the office every day. Most car seats / covers are for 4 door cars so may be unsuitable. There's the problem of the folding driver's seat, the 40:60 split folding rear passenger seats, whether it's best to fold them and put the mutt on top or leave them unfolded.... I'd be interested to know if anyone has found a solution. I can't find a specific 2 series coupe item. Thanks !

My solution for an 85 pound German Shepherd was to buy an X1. No way would she fit in the M2. Barring getting another vehicle, why not get a good cover for the passenger seat and let the Boxer ride up front? Harness her to the seat so she/ he can't jump around. I did that with my Vizsla.

The M2 is great vehicle, but not great for the daily transport of such a large 4 legged companion. You might need to take out the passenger seat, put down a blanket, and attach a harness to the LATCH points in the back seat on the passenger side for safety.

I have 2 car seats in the back of my M2 but these are booster style. What are your concerns/goals?
It seems you have (3) challenges: - Getting your boxer in the back seat easily; the seat will need to be moved back to make room for your dog to jump in. - Protecting your seat; I'd look for a cover that latches to the rear headrests and lays down across the seat - The center / 2 seat rear tray; so your dog can lay down, you might was to pad the rear tray or use a flat dog bed (sheep skin) |

DivideBYZero: ha ha, I forgot about that !
M2 Blur: I also didn't think about the rear tray. Maybe I'd better wait until I have the car before trying to find a solution. Enthusiasm is getting the better of me ! I've transported Megabyte in my Lotus Elise by putting cushions in the footwell to create a flat area with the seat but she couldn't get comfortable at all and I had to put up with a permanent dirty look akin to a mother-in-law who disapproves of one's car but has to put up with it.

Here's my idea for you and your big guy: Remove the pass seat and have your favorite fab/welder make up plates that will allow you to bolt the seat back down to chassis (via the new threaded holes in the fab'd up rails/plate) in a naturally further forward position via the new 'mounts'. If you could start with the seat position 2-4" more forward and then pick up the forward travel from the motors I bet it would be an ez 'hop' into back seats or onto rear folded seats. Just a thought and it's totally reversible come sale time. Top down view of what I'm describing: X represents factory mount points. Y represents the relocated seat mounts. The dots are your fabbed up plate/rail things. X----Y-----X-----Y X----Y-----X-----Y Hopefully this makes some sense. To all that might reply 'omg safety issues, crazy...' please don't. It's a concept, that's all, we're grown ups and can make our own decisions and weigh pros/cons. Good luck. |

I don't know about the fit of this for an M2, but basically something like this works well:
https://www.chewy.com/plush-paws-pro...B&gclsrc=aw.ds My friend has been using something like this in the back seat of his Tesla when bringing his dog places. With a 2 door car I guess you'll have to pull one end off the headrest to get your boxer in and out, but it is a secure way to protect the rear seats and to give your boxer a reasonably comfortable place to be. |
