The slatted style looks very good with the lines of the M2. I like it better that the honeycomb.

Hi All,

Fitted my honeycomb reflectors today, left the wheels on and just jacked up the car. One side at a time. I added the tiny foam pads as provided in the package.

My tool of choice for squeezing the tabs on the reflectors was, water pump pliers -

Okay, they crush the tabs a bit too much but what the hell I don't have time to spend hours jiggling them out (I have no wish to mark the bumper by trying to prize them from the outside either), with my method they simply fall out within a minute or so.

The only tricky bit I found was re-seating the bumper after the trims were fitted. I quickly noticed the edge of the bumper with the perforated indents had bent in at the corners just below the light because of this its hard to get the bumper started with the main body work again. The area I'm talking about is circled in red in this photo:

What I needed to do was pull the bumper out a little further, then bent the area circled in red with my fingers outwards so it could clip into the perforated slot easier (This is very difficult to explain), but when your faced with struggling to get the bumper to re-clip into the slot this is what is required to resolve your issue.

I did the whole job in about 1.5 hours including the all the jacking, etc.

Very pleased with the outcome, the replacement rear reflector kit is simply brilliant and totally worth the purchase price.

MJ

The reflector kit is incredibly well made. It fits as a perfect replacement to the OEM kit. But that's already been discussed. What I haven't seen mentioned is how much wider the rear of the car appears to be now. The original red reflectors seem to cutoff the width of the bumper; with the replacement kit, the width is unhindered and is displayed in all it's glory. Best money I've spent on the car so far.

Mmm I lined everything up, but on one side, right above where you have circled in red, that edge of the bumper which meets the light, slightly sticks out more than the other side.... funny thing is thats how it was to begin with, but i cant seem to push it in so it perfectly matches the other side

you have to push the bumper up and forward to secure the rear between the fender and support clip before reinstalling the screw. see the diy video i made

Am planning on eventually fitting mine soon, those that have installed them already did you use the foam pads supplied or did you find they fitted snuggly without them?

Also sounds like most of you jacked the car up and removed the wheel to do this, i have a hydraulic jack to use but did you use axle stands also, if so is there a recommended spot to place the stand?
Thanks.

try pushing the bumper cover up from the bottom as if you're trying to lift the entire car up from where you took the two bottom screws out

didn't use the supplied foam pad.

always use jack stands when the car needs to be lifted for extended work. the car's balance allows you to lift the car up from the front to put the jack stands at the rear lift point

I know what you mean (its difficult to explain), are you sure the bit above the area I circled in red is not buckled or kinked in some way or something is jammed in the way. I might have been tempted to pull it out a bit more and cut a very small potion off the area above the red circle with a stanley knife. When I mean a small amount I mean 5 - 6mm max but just a suggestion and take care - remember once its gone it can't be added again later so proceed with caution!!

For those having trouble getting the bumper back on fully (especially that upper corner near the rear light), you really have to look closely at the way the bumper meets up with the fender. You'll notice that the bumper has a flat notch on it, and it will fit on top of a "shelf" at the bottom edge of the fender. It's such a tight fit that usually the notch just bumps up against that shelf. You need to almost push that notch up so that it slides on top of the shelf, then the rest of the bumper slides very easily on.

DON'T force it!

To the contrary, I believe they look much more OEM. Still trying to figure the best solution to resolve the look.

Think it's because of the metal (or metalic look) mesh, haven't seen any recent BMW's with metal mesh; maybe paint them black instead of leaving them silver/metalic?
