Trunk Lock Problem
Dear Friends
I think i have a big issue with my OG M2. In some way my trunk lock failed and i cannot open the trunk. Does anybody know how to get into trunk from inside by removing the rear seats ? Release handles are also inside of the trunk. Any help will be highly appreciated. Regards |

Did you try the trunk release near the drivers side door? It is right above the hood release.

If you have the rear ski pass through or cargo pass through fold that down and use a stick to push the rear seat release. If you cannot get to the rear seat release use a stick to pull the trunk release, this is tricky because it is hard to get it to release from the little clip and then hold on to the handle. I used a mini knee hockey stick attached to a broom and could reach and loop it through the handle and have it hook tightly enough I could pull.
Otherwise that center pass through is actually quite big and someone really skinny could crawl in.

I have those same dirt marks by my trunk release!
But seriously, I've always felt this was a pretty big design flaw in modern cars, to not have a physical key hole to open the trunk; or some kind of mechanical pull lever to be able to open the trunk without battery power. You may have to just drill a hole in the trunk lid, and get a new trunk lid. You can't access the trunk by removing the back seats; they have that hook that locks on to the back seat. |

Funny this topic came up. I was at the dealership getting a track inspection done the other day, and some guy was in there all day waiting for his car due to a broke key cylinder in the trunk. They had to drill it out to get inside.

Ofcourse it was the trunk switch in the glove box that I didn’t know about after 2 years of ownership. Duh!

I've owned the car for 3 years and never seen the switch, never operated it. A passenger operated the switch and locked me out and I spent an hour trying to figure it out. |
