I'm in! M2 GRAN COUPE in RWD please ! Make it a 4 ( ala 6 series GC ) or 5 door (ala 435 GC) , I don't care ! I've been tired of seeing BMW ignore this segment since the end of the BMW compact sedan in 2005 That was when the E46 ceased production and ended 3 generations of goodness from E30 to E46. Damn, now I gotta pour some out for my dead homies |

Now, should there be a ZCP version and then a standalone CSL version or just a ZCP down the line?
And if you were to be limited to a pallette of 4 paints and one stitch what would you choose? White, black, donington... I think there has been so much focus on greys and blues this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce a wild red. Is there a racetrack red that someone knows of that would look sweet? Melbourne II? I would still like to see a mandarin/tangerine type color or a new yellow orange... I'm a fan of lava orange and voodoo blue as well. Like BMW marketing says "you can predict the future by creating it" |

If such a M2 GC is coming, I wonder on what platform... I would not really like to see a FWD M2 GC based on the same platform they are now planning to build the 2-Series Sedan and future 1-Series.

I'm hoping for an adapted CLAR platform but I'm sure the UKL plus can be modified to include carbon elements and/or rwd platorrm
Scott ha mentioned there will be a model for all needs/tax brackets... Even with the push to mobility/sustainability/zero emission type vehicles BMW should also focus on a premium compact.... |

Furthermore, we don't even know if there will be 2 GC coming on the next platform. And the car was shown in China is probably the 1 series sedan. |

I would still like to have the m-specific chassis/steering and engine bits but in a premium 4-door compact coupe. Now if the M2GC/M2 gran coupe/M2 GC took a little longer to get to market but you knew it was coming, would you wait for it?
Tbe M2GC should come with the Carbon roof if not getting the roof window... What would your vivid release color be? |

M2GC could bring me back.
And for color...we had VO for the 1M and this ugly blue for the M2 - I would vote for the real orange we saw in one of the first M2 renders. Or a nice red.

If you are looking for demand signal, many of us would put their money down sight unseen if BMW were to announce an M2 GC RWD of course.
There's always hope Porsche will make that car, a sort of 4 door Cayman |

My boss just got a new Panamara (adios to the 7er), and I actually like how it looks. But it would be really nice if it were 30% smaller - along the lines of what you're saying.

I'm not optimistic.. I think the bean counters at BMW will win over Abd the next 2er will in fact be switched over to the UKL FWD platform.
That would be sad as the small RWD sports car market keeps shrinking.. |

So like how cliche would red be...? Oh... And Jet black... How about it BMW AG and BMW NA... The US is still waiting for an e46 m3 in four door guise ... RWD.. Call it a gran coupe, throw a carbon fiber roof on it a 2 series gran coupe and make it sleek like the m6 GC and buyers will say CLA LATER |

I'm not sure high M2 sales would persuade BMW to do a M2GC. I believe it would only persuade them to continue to do another M2 on the next generation with perhaps more custom parts, options and availability. It might also persuade them to keep the 2 platform as rwd. But IMO an M2 would still remain a coupe. S3 and CLA show a need a for a 4 door sporty sedan, but they don't show a demand for a true M car with rear wheel drive. A four door BMW competitor would likely be envisioned as an M version of that 1 series sedan concept for china. That might be called something like the M140i xdrive. The fact that BMW has shown so little interest in keeping RWD heralds bad news for the M2 in general - my hope is that high M2 sales will keep a "real" rwd 2 alive in future generations.
I think the way for BMW to be persuaded to do a 2 series GC (afterall there has to have a 2GC before an M2GC anyway), would be if 3 series sales fall and 2 series sales grow. The 3 series sales might start to fall because it's too bloated, too expensive and has been panned for things like the steering and general driving feel. But it's still hard for 2 series sales to grow with respect to the 3 when the 320 can be had for less than a 228. Those stripped out 320's that sell well to badge buyers and fleet buyers are also part of the reason that the 3's rep will diminish too. Anyone whose only experience has been sitting as a passenger in a stripped 320 will not appreciate why you would spend 50-80K on a "real" 3 series. BMW currently has unlimited appetite to make compromised bloated cars because they are selling. BMW's willingness to dump "RWD only" also bodes poorly. These compromised bloated cars sell often times based on BMW's prior reputation, nevermind that those same cars also diminish that reputation for the future. The fact that BMW had the appetite at all for the 1/M and M2 shows that there is something left still in the brand for driving passion and that they do want to preserve some street cred, but only if it's profitable - and most importantly BMW will not risk much for the M2 when easy money can be snapped up on less exciting products. |
