Clanking sound when pulling e-brake, normal?
When I am going about 25mph in my M2, and pulling the e-brake lever, it makes a clanking sound. And I asked the tech during my break-in service, he said it is normal. and that the brake pad inside the rear brake drum is shifting. anyone else have this sound?

The parking brake shoes sit against the backplate and it's all metal to metal contact. If they are stuck, have rust or have not been used in a while it is completely normal to get a clanking sound when they finally shift away from their static position. Some high-quality high temp grease or anti-seize compound between the shoes and backplate should help.
There are springs in the parking brake system as well so those are another source for noise. |

Why are you pulling the hand brake at 25 mph? Are we engaging in a drift? Probably easier pop the clutch....

Thanks guys. I understand that they shifts and will make a noise. Just want to see if others are getting the same noise. Anyhow, I don’t pull on it often.. I do it when I don’t feel like using my brake foot.
