What does the 1M weigh? It's around 3400 pounds, right?

The US-spec M235 is heavier because of more standard equipment. I think the EU kerb weight is right in the 135's zone if you will.

Getting down to 3200 pounds is a fantasy, at least in my opinion. But we can hope.

Thanks a bunch for chiming in, Scott. Really looking forward to the launch of this product!

Is this going to be a limited production car like the 1M?

Wow. This is getting interesting. My lease is up in 8 months and I've gone back and forth between M235i and M3. If I see an all white M2 with CF roof all deals are off and this will be my next car.

I will be graduating 22 years straight of schooling with my Ph.D. in December. I already have a job lined up in Silicon Valley. I have been a gear head since 4th grade. The 2016 M2 WILL be my next vehicle (and first new vehicle) both as a sign of my long-standing yearning for the ultimate driving machine and as a congratulations to myself.

Needless to say:

Can a new 2 car be ordered without the Idrive screen like the old e9x 3 car could be ordered? Would like to see a real M2 stripper option.

Nope even the 116 has idrive.

Nothing on the f chassis can be spec'd without I beleive. Basically there is no other way to configure the cars settings.

As excited I am for this car to come out, I am more curious as to how one gets the job to drive and test these pre-production vehicles.

My M235 is not a great car - but it is a very good car. It is plenty quick in straight lines, but even in the context of a spirited drive, you can feel the weight and body roll around you. Will better suspension and underpinnings change that? Of course - but without some Slim Fast, the improvement might be neglible.

In order for me to justify the 10K increase in price that I am anticipating, the M2 is going to have to be one special mofo. So far, the info we know about it suggests that it will be very very good - but perhaps not special. I, for one, don't care for the N55. I have had two of them now, and they have left me underwhelmed. The N54 was awesome. If they told me the M2 was coming with a tricked up even more version of that - my attitude would change.

But that's not going to be the case. Most likely, we are going to get the N55, not the S55, with a couple of different ///M badges on it (yes, I am being facetious, but it won't be the total treatment, which is what we want)...to me, this car is becoming harder to shoehorn into the spot that's been set aside for it UNLESS it's significantly better handling than the M235 OR significantly faster. My guess is that the final product will be a little bit of both - which means you pick this car over the M3/4 for looks, size, or economy. Not because it's the best driver's car BMW makes - which is what it should be.

Hoping I am wrong.
I agree^..
We don't even know what M-Division is going to do with the N55, perhaps two twin-scrolls..? Better cooling..? Different intake..?

But, if the M2's n55 is just more of 135is/235is tuning, then I am out. I already own a 3,400lbs, 369ft-lbs n55..

I've been waiting since the e46 M3, for the M2 (not lucky enough on the 1M), if it doesn't impress I am done with BMWs, as nothing else coming down the pipeline excites, or perks my interest.

BMW are too sterile and nearly everything in BMW's portfolio is soulless.. and meant for commoners! (LCD). They have seem to lost their dna, or heritage of driver's car.. too many nannies, etc.

Does it bother anyone, that BMW is not racing any new cars..? Why no 2-series in any events? Just drift videos..?

Looks to be an EVO IX dashboard.

Also the exhaust and engine sounds that can be heard are being generated by the camera car.

The film car is DEFINITELY an Evo.

As for the confirmed weight, by whom was it confirmed?
Looking forward to this car, really hope I get my allocation on it!

Why M3/4 over M2:
- S55 > N55. Really has to be driven to appreciate it.
- Weight. I'm getting more and more convinced that there will NOT be a huge weight reduction vs M235i.

What the M2 will have going for it will be its size and price vs M3/4. Right now, I'm still leaning towards stripper-ish M3 (but I do have a small E36 for what it's worth, maybe that's why the M2 is losing my interest a little).
I'm trying to keep myself from getting he F8X even though I know the engine is sweet. I had a stripper F30 6mt m perf edition 335i w mppk/mpe/edc that I was going to use as a DD but ended up hating it. It was just too big. I kept my S65 though. But if I were to get a F8X it would be 6mt stripper w carbon structure cloth.

I thought the 135 was too small. So I'm hoping the M2 fits the bill even though I wish it had the S55. But based on BMW's direction as of late and the swelling of the model line I can see how you just want to get the S55 when it comes time.

Here's hoping BMW knocks the M2 out of the park. I'm excited for the M8/M10 halo car as well as the next V10 M5.
